Walking/Thinking About. Exploring Berlin Mitte on foot.
**Fragen? Schreib mir einfach hier.** ## English **90 minutes of walking and thinking — free, right in the heart of Berlin** Nietzsche trusted only thoughts that one has walked into. Walter Benjamin called the street “the dwelling place of the collective.” We take both of them at their word and set off. ## Four ways of walking, one route We begin in Weinbergspark with fifteen minutes of silent walking—slower than usual, with attention directed toward the ground. Then we stroll along Torstraße and Auguststraße: walking like someone who has nothing to get done. That is precisely what Benjamin wrote about. At Koppenplatz and on Große Hamburger Straße, walking becomes a way of reading a city marked by gaps. We pause briefly and say little. At Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, we ask when walking becomes political—on a square crossed by many demonstrations. In between, we walk for a while in pairs, with a question. At the end, we form a circle: one sentence from each person. ## Who it is for For anyone who enjoys walking and thinking. You need no prior knowledge, no texts, no preparation. If you prefer listening to speaking, you will feel at home here—a large part of the walk will take place in silence. ## Who I am Ralf Müller. I earned my doctorate at Humboldt University on European and Asian philosophy, teach at various academic institutions, and work as a logotherapist and existential analyst in Berlin. I also teach the adult-education course on this topic—at the end of the walk, I’ll say two sentences about it. The 90 minutes themselves belong to walking. ## Practical details **Monday, 07 September 2026, 6:00–7:30 p.m.** Meeting point: Cafe Fleury on Weinbergsweg at Volkspark am Weinberg, (5 minutes from Rosenthaler Platz U-Bahn station) End point: Linienstraße 162, around 4:30 p.m. Free of charge; participation limited to 15 people About 3.5 km; slow pace; flat route, partly on cobblestones Please wear comfortable shoes, bring a weatherproof jacket and something to drink We will walk even in the rain—that is part of it ## A question to bring along If you like: Is there a route you walk regularly—and does your thinking change while you walk it? No obligation, just an invitation. ## If you want to continue walking On 12 and 13 September, we will explore these four ways of walking in depth: a weekend course at VHS Berlin Mitte, comprising 16 teaching units, partly indoors and partly outdoors, with texts by Benjamin as well as writings from philosophy of life and phenomenology. €34.40 (€22.80 reduced rate). Registration through VHS using course number **Mi108-019H**. The walk on 29 August is independent of the course and complete in itself. **Questions? Just write to me here.**

Afternoon Walk+Coffee in Berlin: Sonnenallee/Treptower/Kreuzberg👣🚶🚶♀️☀️🥐☕🍪
Sun, Aug 30, 12:15 PM1 EURO DONATION FEE PER PERSON IS REQUIRED (on site, in cash), to pay back the Meetup subscription fees and support my Events. READ THE DESCRIPTION WITH THE INFO (IMPORTANT). WHATSAPP LINK BELOW 📳 We take a walk in Berlin to meet new people or people we already know 😁 It's a way to spend a few hours together on a Sunday afternoon. **How it works?** The concept is very simple: * We meet at Sonnenallee Station at 14,15 o'clock (we use the Whatsapp Chat to find each other: I will post there my exact location outside the station) * I wait for people for 10 minutes, till 14,25, then we start to walk direction Treptower Park, crossing the park 🌳🌳🌳 and going along the Spree river, to then go further * We go on along the Landwehrkanal, exploring Kreuzberg 🏠 * The total length of the walk is about 8kms * We land finally here to take coffee, a drink, or some food, and spend more time together ([https://maps.app.goo.gl/RsUCxwDKK6yVtiF48](https://maps.app.goo.gl/RsUCxwDKK6yVtiF48)) I consider that the event will last in overall around 4 hours (2 hours of walk 🚶🚶♀️ and 2 hours at the Cafe/Restaurant), but people are free to stay together longer, if they want 🙂 What I provide is leading the walk and the people at the Cafe, but I do not force anyone to stay shorter or longer. I do not provide a "personal support" for people who arrive after 14,25 (do not write to me expecting "private support"). You are responsible to check for the weather and decide if come or not. Thanks for understanding. If you have to contact me, make it via Whatsapp, not here on Meetup. Harz Day Trip: Devil's Wall and Witches Mountain
Sun, Aug 30, 4:00 AM*Journey to the Harz Mountain region, hike along some of the most impressive rock formations, and walk through the magical woodlands, which, according to mythology, are the home of witches and the devil.* Hike Distance: 10km Difficulty: Intermediate Discover the magic of the Bodetal Valley and magical Hexentanzplatz Join a bunch of like-minded hikers and join this legendary trail that takes you straight into the heart of the Harz Mountains. Taking the direct Harz Express train from Berlin, the hike climbs the picturesque town of Thale up to the famous Hexentanzplatz (the "Witches' Dance Floor"). Perched on a dramatic rocky plateau about 454 meters above sea level, this route treats you to some of the most striking gorge scenery in northern Europe. As you leave the town behind, you'll walk alongside the rushing waters of the Bode River before beginning your ascent into the deep, rugged granite ravines of the Bodetal nature reserve. The terrain offers an immersive and moderately challenging trek, winding upward through dense, ancient forests of beech and oak. The paths are well-established but can become uneven and rocky, rewarding your physical effort with stunning lookout points along the way. From these clearings, you'll get breathtaking panoramic views of the sheer cliff faces, the green thickets blanketing the valley floor, and the imposing Rosstrappe cliff rising directly across the gorge. Beyond the natural beauty, this hike is steeped in German folklore and cultural history. The Hexentanzplatz itself is famously known as an old Saxon cult site and the legendary gathering place for witches on Walpurgis Night (the eve of May 1st), a tradition that heavily inspired Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s masterpiece, Faust. Once you reach the top, the mystical atmosphere is brought to life by iconic metal sculptures of witches and devils, the historic Walpurgis Hall museum, and an open-air mountain theater, making the summit just as captivating as the journey up. After the hike, take the cable car down to the valley below, and enjoy a wonderful setting of the entire Harz. The hike will be lead by two experienced community guides, Raf and Lonely Planet author Daniel Cole. https://www.eventbrite.de/e/day-hiking-at-harz-mountains-bodetal-valley-tickets-1993825664234?aff=oddtdtcreator
