Book shop exploring (Brixton → Dulwich Park)

In the digital age💻📡📱, do you still like getting a physical book to read? Where do you buy them? Amazon? Waterstone? Blackstone? How about join us for a bookshop crawl, let's try to find some hidden gems of independent bookshops. (Or just tag along for a chat😁) Find out more book shops to try, this time we will be heading down to south London. We will meet at Brixton tube station, then walk towards Dulwich Park. There will be 4-5 book shops in total, never been to most of them, so it will be some new experience for me as well. Upon finishing, we can find somewhere to sit and chat about books. The two hour time is just a guidance, some shops take longer and some are less. If you ever want to stay in one shop for longer (I know, been there, done that😂) feel free to do so, you can join us at other shops. Balancers Community Volunteering - Clothing Distribution

Hi Balancers, We believe community is about more than meeting new people. It's also about showing up for those who need support. As part of our ongoing partnership with Refugee Community Kitchen, we're inviting you to join us for a different kind of volunteering session. This time, we’re joining **Refugee Community Kitchen (RCK)** at their Goodge Street service to provide essential clothing to people who need it. 👕 **HOW IT WORKS** We’ll meet at **6:00 PM in front of the Dominion Theatre**. From there, we’ll cross the road to Primark and split into small groups. Each group will be given a few essential clothing items to find and buy. Once we’re done, we’ll walk about **5 minutes to Goodge Street**, join the RCK service and distribute the clothing while their team serves food. ♻️ **HAVE CLOTHES YOU DON’T USE ANYMORE?** You’re also welcome to bring a **small amount of clean, good-condition clothing** that you no longer use and would be happy to donate. Please only bring a few items, as we have **very limited storage space** and may not be able to take large bags of clothes. **🍻 AFTER VOLUNTEERING** For anyone who wants to stick around, we’ll head to a nearby pub for a drink after the session. A chance to relax, chat and get to know each other a little better. 💷 **CHIPPING IN** We’ll collect contributions from the group and use the full amount to buy the clothing that evening. Do you wish to copy a beloved piece of clothing? Would you like to learn how to adjust your own pattern to fit just you? Learn how to take body measurements, read and alter a commercial pattern to fit, lay out and cut fabric and construct a finished garment to a high standard using one of our Janome 525s or Bernina 1008 series sewing machines. During the sessions of this small group of learners you will gain confidence and improve any sewing skills you already have. If you have never used a machine, we can guide you through making a simple garment from a purchased pattern. Bring your own pattern or use one of our small selection. If you have sewing experience but want to start creating your own patterns, you can learn how to create a bespoke piece of clothing. You can also bring a piece of clothing to alter or fix. We supply the basics and the calico you will use to make a ‘toile’ (an inexpensive mock up) to save you ruining your chosen final fabric. Along the way, talented tutor and seamstress will teach you lots of techniques and tips to ramp up your sewing passion. This is a perfect class if you have been teaching yourself so far, or if your last project was made a long time ago at school. **Suitable for:** Suitable for beginners, enjoyable for those with experience. Let’s go to the V&A during Friday evening late opening hours and look at two different displays: the Burberry trenchcoat display, and the Freddie Mercury trail across the museum that’s called: Splendid Things. I feel both sound very intriguing! These are free to see but I need to charge an attendance fee of £3 to go towards the Meetup organiser’s fee that I am getting charged. I didn’t do so well this half year, hoping to catch up over the next six months if you think of what we talked about.
