INTRODUCTION TO WILD FOODS — PASADENA CITY COLLEGE, ON CAMPUS

**Friday, November 6, 7 p.m.** **INTRODUCTION TO WILD FOODS for food, medicine, fire, etc.** To attend - Register with the school (information below) We will discuss the plants that we deem the most important to know from the standpoint of Food, Medicine, Fire, Water, Shelter, and “other.” These are common “multi-purpose” plants, useful for more than only food. The plants we will be discussing are found widely throughout North America, and are very common in the overall Southwest. Each plant will be rated on a scale of its relative usefulness in each of the key areas. Rather than think in terms of simply “edibility,” you will see that the plants we discuss are multi-purpose, and useful for many of life’s necessities. You’ll also learn which of Christopher Nyerges’ books contain the most detailed information about these multi-purpose plants. A discussion and social time will follow. The Hollywood Sculpture Garden is really a neat place . . . AND WE GET TO VISIT AND HAVE A SOCIAL THERE!!! It's located on private property and not normally open to the public. So it is indeed a special thing for us to go. (for free) Now . . . About this event: It is outdoors in a super-funky, pretty and cute location of The Hollywood Sculpture Garden. **This is intended as a "New To Meetup Mixer." Meaning if you are new to Meetup, or new to the group, been in the group for a while but not attended an event or even just new to the city, . . . then come.** A perfect way to meetup some quality people over some even better wine. **And very perfect if this is your first meetup ever!! Come join us.** If you are an existing member, . . . then you are equally welcome. After all . . who will be the welcome wagon for all the new people? Now . . . Board Games at The Original Farmers’ Market!

🎲 Bring Your Own Board Game (optional) and jacket 🧥 (it gets chilly at night)! Come hang out, meet new people, and enjoy a chill game night on the second floor of The Farmers’ Market at The Grove. 🧋🍛✨ Whether you’re a serious board gamer or just here for the vibes, everyone is welcome! 💛 We’ll be using the outdoor tables on the second floor of the farmers market right next to the community room. There are several staircases you can use to get to the second floor. One of them is directly to the left of Figure 8 Tea Project. We’ll have some games available, but feel free to bring a favorite you’d like to share! ✨ Most importantly, bring positive energy and be respectful so everyone can have a fun and comfortable time together. ☺️🫶🏽 **Parking** at the Farmer’s Market is $56.00, so I don’t recommend parking there. There is some metered parking on Fairfax Ave and Third Street that is free after 8pm. There is also **free street parking** on N Hayworth Ave, S Hayworth Ave, and Oakwood Ave. From the grove just drive north up Fairfax Ave and make a left on Oakwood Ave. Make sure to read the signs. When the event is over we can carpool back to Oakwood Ave or walk together.

Food Distribution 🛒 Network

Urban Partners Los Angeles’ “Groceries for our Neighbors” food distribution program provides essential weekly groceries to thousands of low-income, homeless, and senior members of the community in Los Angeles. Volunteers make up a large part of the program, with a small number of staff members coming from the community we serve. This initiative has been a vital resource for those in need for over 32 years, and we are committed to continuing to support our community through it. Each week, approximately 35,000 people in our community struggle with food insecurity, and around 10,000 members may go without meals due to financial constraints. Our relief efforts aim to ensure that no one in our community goes hungry, especially vulnerable populations. We are dedicated to securing our food and funding reserves in order to respond effectively to emergencies and handle the ongoing pandemic and its aftermath, as well as future Crises. We distribute, on average, over 30,000 pounds of food every Saturday. Our goal is to provide enough groceries for a family of four to sustain themselves for one week. Our ability to continue to operate is due in large part to the generous support of businesses and individual donors who believe in our mission to alleviate hunger for struggling Los Angeles families. If you would like to join us on the frontlines and help fight hunger in our community, we welcome your assistance at our food bank. We operate on Saturdays from 6:00 am to 9:30 am, rain or shine, some holidays excluded.
