Winter on the Cusp of Spring
Winter’s on the wane and signs of spring are popping up, making now a perfect time to appreciate the intermingling of the best of both seasons. Experience the beauty of bare tree architecture and the welcome sight of early bloomers on a stroll abounding with sensory delight at Green Spring Gardens, a local treasure.
Tuning in with our senses, we’ll combine slow strolling with attentive pauses to deepen our connection with nature. Green Spring offers space for quiet enjoyment throughout the seasons, and is particularly noted for its collection of dozens of cultivated varieties of witch hazels of many colors. Their unusual flowers are among the earliest to open, often blooming amidst snow and ice, and they are in bloom now. There’s pussy willow (pictured) too.
The health benefits of slowing down in quiet company among trees and plants with senses alert and aware are scientifically documented, but the best way to understand these benefits is to experience them yourself, preferably on a regular basis.
IMPORTANT! The size of the group is limited! Please be sure to update your status asap on either the “going” or “wait list” if you sign up and find you can’t make it!
Walking under 2 miles is mostly on natural, somewhat uneven surfaces, with a few short hills. Wear good walking shoes, a hat and sunscreen, and bring water (or tea) to drink.

Join us for a pickup on a weekday! There will be little wet field but we still plan to play.
Group is relatively small which means you will get to show your skill and run quite a bit ! It is a co-ed game and open to all. Once the players limit is reached, no player will be admitted into the game. We already got a number of players (10) confirmed OFFLINE as guests of Host(s) through Signal. *Those in waitlist will be moved to the confirmed list only when spot becomes available.*
*Also the games RULES below, fair play and camaraderie must be followed*.
⚽ It is a friendly game, no slide or back tackling, no rough play, and no greedy play or coaching.
⚽ Join the **Signal group**, Download ***[Signal app](https://signal.org/download/)*** and ***[join the Signal group](https://signal.group/#CjQKIBolYKIpshcX_ooOu_fmV7xlbEeJm5zBZ6_V8uTiuFNOEhAk5KeXU1QFVt39OBRP106d)*** for the game day updates. *Firstcomer, SEE the host to approve you to join the group*.

**Host's Philosophy on This Event:**
The purpose of this meetup is to create a fun and supportive environment where we can improve our skills, enjoy competitive games, and connect socially. While we do aim to play seriously and challenge ourselves, the focus is more on growth and enjoyment than simply winning at all costs. That’s why the title doesn’t include “competitive” or “social”—we want a healthy mix of both. This is a space where you won’t be judged for making mistakes, ***but we do expect you to listen to the organizer if they make suggestions or adjustments***. We also expect a mindset geared toward learning and getting better over time. That said, this event isn’t intended for total beginners; an understanding of the game is expected so that everyone can contribute to meaningful and engaging matches. The host holds the right to remove you from the game if they believe that you are at a C level.
**Skill Level:**
1. **If you want to know your level, please see the link below:**

**ATTENDANCE:**
**Player Selection:** Regulars > League Members > Smiley Attendance Ratio\* > Skills (BB>B) > New Members
The host takes attendance very seriously. Please remove yourself from the event (if you can't make it) as early as possible to allow others to join. You will be marked as a ***no-show*** if you don't show up to the event.
One no-show means you will be removed from the group. See the rules below.
**\*The organizers can see the number of times you have attended events vs the times you have dropped out. If your drop rate is more than 50%, you may not be accepted to the going list.**
[Smiley Social Rules](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HrG35p_0M08leRvCp8XWG3CMkr_GL928XFabl5T6Dvg/edit)
**Q&A**
* Bringing your **dog** is welcome and encouraged.
* *Can I come if I don't know how to play?* No, you may not. The host teaches a beginner's volleyball class that you may attend on Saturdays.
* *Can I be late or leave early?* The host expects you to be there **on time** and leave on time. If you need to arrive late or leave early, please let the host know in advance.
* *Can I come even if I am not on the going list?* No, sorry
* Why Max the players at 10 when you can do 6v6? This court is already for 2v2; getting 6 players on each side is overkill.
* How can I become a regular if I don't ever get to attend? You can attend my other events on weekdays/weekends. Show me you have good skills and bring good vibes!

The Unity of Humanity: A Bahá'í Perspective
Please join us for our next **Friday gathering** on **March 6, 2026** for an evening of warm fellowship and insightful discussion.
We'll start at **7:00 pm** with **refreshments** at the **Alexandria Bahá’í Center**. The discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. on **One Human Family.**
One Human Family is a core tenet of the Bahá'í Faith, expressing the fundamental belief in the oneness of humanity. This principle calls us to recognize the essential unity of the human race and to work toward eliminating prejudices of race, class, gender, and nationality. In our increasingly interconnected yet divided world, this teaching is more vital than ever—it challenges us to move beyond superficial differences and build a global civilization founded on justice, equality, and shared purpose.
The presentation will be led by Trisha Irons, a member of the Alexandria Bahá'í community who enjoys volunteering her time working with families in many community-building activities.

Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
***Okay, call me crazy but you have got to try their chip n dip!*** Club 85 is a true hidden gem in German Village! Seriously, old school, good comfort food and drink. We will try to gather in spaces near the windows. While we'll share Chip n Dip, you'll want to order a sandwich, too.
**Where the Chip Began (1817)**
Potato chips can be traced back to an English chef, William Kitchiner, who includes ‘crisps’ in his bestselling cookbook, “The Cook’s Oracle.”
**Chip and Dip Popularity**
The popularity of chip and dip skyrockets at the end of World War II with new entertainment fads and the introduction of Lipton’s new advertising campaign for their famous French Onion Dip. (Club 185 doesn't openly admit it, but I'm pretty sure that's their dip recipe!)
**[Club 185](http://club185.com/)**—a true neighborhood bar serving since 1954, when it was known as a local 'speak-easy'. Located in German Village, Club 185 features a menu of quality casual comfort food and full bar. From politicians to lawyers, hardhats to hipsters—all find Club 185 the perfect place to tame their hunger and quench their thirst!
**PARKING**: I know, brick street parallel parking can be a pain. Two other choices, metered parking along Livingston heading towards Children's Hospital or across the street in the large church lot (park in spaces farthest away from the church entrance doors, closer to the street).
**PRE-EVENT**: **HAPPY HOUR (3-5pm)**: Italian drinks and bites at [Cento's happy hour](https://centogermanvillage.com/menus/), nearby.
