Last Fridays at the Farm - Neurodivergent Therapists & Holistic Healers
This is a peer support group for neurodivergent and neuro-affirming therapists and other healers in the mental health and somatic spaces. We'll meet the last Friday We'll have opportunities to socialize and grow our professional referral base in a fun, outdoor (and indoor when needed) environment. It's held on a goat farm in Silver Spring, MD so yes, you'll definitely get to be goofy around and with goats!
Feel free to bring virtual and paper business cards and a snack to share if you choose to. There's a $35 fee per group which goes to cover the cost of nonalcoholic beverages and snacks. Feel free to bring a guest for free.
I'll get us started with a brief ice-breaker activity or I might just pick a willing volunteer to help.
Journey to the Centre of the Earth - Book Discussion
This is our second meeting to discuss **Jules Verne’s** timeless adventure, **Journey to the Centre of the Earth.**
We'll be discussing chapters 16-31.
We'll always keep a relaxed pace of about 70–100 pages per week so there is plenty of time to enjoy the story before we gather over coffee, tea, or wine.

MO: Otter Creek Wilderness (31 miles)
I was not meaning to steal Austin's thunder on this trip (he's heading to Otter Creek in August), but I've also been wanting to check out this area and had been pondering a trip there for the last weekend in June. Come join me! (And full disclosure I haven't been here before so we can explore it together!) Also, just a note that since there's a 21-mile day, you should have already attended at least one DCUL trip before.
We will meet at the Vienna metro at 5 pm Friday to carpool, then head for the [Lower Glady Dispersed Campground ](https://elkinsrandolphwv.com/place/lower-glady-dispersed-camping-area/)to spend Friday night and meet up with anyone driving separately. Saturday morning, we'll get an early start to beat the heat and head up the Mylius trail from the campground, gain the ridge and head clockwise around the Otter Creek wilderness area boundary. After reaching Otter Creek, we'll head south following the creek and camp along it.
Sunday we'll get back up on the plateau and follow the boundary south back to the cars. Finally, we'll grab some food in Davis on the way home. I hear there are bogs, marshes and creek crossings, so prepare to get wet. Splits are 0/21/10.

SOLD OUT! Grand National Parks 6/27-7/12/2026
**A Journey Through the Soul of the American Wilderness**
Step aboard and let the rails carry you into the heart of America’s wild beauty. With Amtrak’s Grand National Parks journey, the landscapes tell a story — of ancient mountains, roaring geysers, and valleys carved by time.
Your adventure begins in the legendary Yellowstone National Park, where the earth breathes through steaming geysers and colorful hot springs. Witness the powerful eruption of Old Faithful, stand in awe at the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, and watch herds of bison and elk move across wide, golden valleys untouched by time.
Next, journey westward to the granite cathedrals and misty waterfalls of Yosemite National Park. Beneath the towering heights of El Capitan and Half Dome, and among giant sequoias older than empires, you’ll walk through landscapes that have inspired generations of adventurers, poets, and dreamers.
Finally, travel north aboard the famed Empire Builder to the wild, untouched splendor of Glacier National Park. Here, turquoise lakes, sweeping alpine meadows, and rugged peaks paint a portrait of nature’s raw, enduring beauty. Every trail, every mountain pass whispers of an ancient world still alive today.
Throughout this unforgettable journey, the train is more than transportation — it’s a front-row seat to America’s greatest wonders. With comfortable accommodations, expert guides, and breathtaking views at every turn, this is not just a vacation — it’s a pilgrimage to the soul of the American wilderness.

C&O Canal at Big Slackwater Hike
The Big Slackwater section of the C&O Canal south of Williamsport, MD was completely closed for more than 20 years because the towpath, squeezed into an incredibly narrow corridor between the Potomac on one side and high cliffs on the other, got flooded out once too often. This section has reopened after a $15 million restoration project that should solve the flooding problem.
Starting from the Canal's Dam #4, we will head upstream and soon reach the inlet lock that marks the lower end of the Big Slackwater section. The next few miles should be both unusually scenic and unusually interesting as we admire the sturdily-rebuilt towpath beneath our feet. We continue past quaint McMahon Mill and Howell Cave (no relation that we know of) to Lock 41, where the Canal as we usually think of it resumes, with a prism and berm as well as the towpath. Total length of our easy stroll is about 8 miles.
Bring beverages, lunch, and about $15 for transportation and trip fees. We'll meet and form carpools from the Grosvenor-Strathmore metro station at 9am. RSVPs close at 8pm the day before to allow for logistical planning.
Additional Trip Details:
Trip may be adjusted due temperature or river water level.
