CARPENTRY FOR BEGINNERS – 11 EVENINGS – WOOD TABLE
**Bookable via our website ➡️** [https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/carpentry-for-beginners-10-evenings-wood-table/](https://www.thegoodlifecentre.co.uk/events/carpentry-for-beginners-10-evenings-wood-table/)
⋆⋆⋆
In this throw-away age, when all the furniture we own is assembled and not built, we are pleased to offer an opportunity to spend some precious time learning how to use ageless tools to make something everlasting from wood. These 12 evenings are a perfect starting point for many aspects of woodwork that will give you the confidence to choose and replicate basic wood joints into other projects.
Using a mixture of traditional hand tools and modern drills and saws, experienced Woodworker, Len Conway will guide and inspire you as he teaches age-old techniques in joinery. As you begin making objects traditionally constructed from seasoned pine, you will learn how to use and care for chisels, saws, planes and spokeshaves. Len is an experienced woodworker and teacher.
Students will work on a variety of exercises – designed to incorporate simple to advanced joints and tools that build confidence and independence.
Over 12 weeks, we will cover many aspects of traditional carpentry tuition. There will be lots of practical exercises in each session including a project to make a simple frame table that you will take home.
Students will work on a variety of exercises – designed to incorporate simple to advanced joints and tools that build confidence and independence.

* Using a chisel and its uses. Sharpening tips and practice.

A no-show means you RSVPed but did not attend or cancelled just before or after the start time. Repeated no-shows or late cancellations without a valid reason may lead to removal. Reliable regulars who end up on a waitlist may message the host for priority consideration.
\-\-\-
✅ **WHO CAN JOIN**
Adults aged 21 and over
No children
No pets
\-\-\-
**STAYING TOGETHER**
Participants must choose events that match their fitness and keep up with the group lead, as the overall pace will not be adjusted for individuals. A dedicated back marker may not always be present, so stay within sight of others and keep an organiser in view where possible.
If someone ahead is significantly slowing the pace, please move past them to stay with the main group. Faster walkers should wait at junctions, and organisers may pause at key points to regroup.
While we try not to leave anyone behind, it is not safe or practical for a large group to repeatedly stop for individuals unable to maintain the stated pace. Participants who cannot keep up may be asked to navigate independently at their own pace. Anyone who continues independently without informing an organiser will be assumed to be managing their own route and safety.
\-\-\-

The GREAT LOST RAILWAY JOURNEY - £5 🌱🌲🌿WALK.
An interesting £5 GREEN WALK along the route of a long forgotten railway commuter line in North London. STRENGTHEN NEW FRIENDSHIPS IN A PUB SOCIAL AFTER THE WALK.
Forgotten Railways, Overgrown Platforms and Phantom Stations are the theme for today's walk. Today we visit a timewarp of days long gone as we retrace the route of one of London's great lost railway journeys of North London
**WALK START: Meeting at MANOR HOUSE station (Zone 2/3 - Piccadilly Line).** When you arrive at the start look for Ken with the 'KEN'S EVENTS' Meetup Badge. If you are running a few minutes late, don't worry, we usually wait a short time for latecomers. If you are more than 15 mins late you will have to catch us up. Head inside Finsbury Park and up to the cafe on top of the hill.
WALK ROUTE: Starting at Manor House we will enter the enormous green space of Finsbury Park. Upon leaving Finsbury Park we will commence our walk tracing the route of a railway that once ran to Alexandra Palace via Highgate and is now London's longest Local Nature Reserve which supports a remarkable range of habitats and wildlife. Hedgehogs, foxes, butterflies and a vast array of birds are spotted on a daily basis. We end this walk at Muswell Hill.
WALK FINISH and PUB SOCIAL: We end this walk at Muswell Hill. (in the Mossy Well pub) which is a short bus ride or about 15/20 mins walk to East Finchley or Highgate Tube Stations (Northern Line). (Zone 3). Several buses can be caught from outside the pub.
WALK DISTANCE: Approx 5.5 miles. Small gradients.
RAIN POLICY - If the weather is very wet, we may curtail or postpone the walk, therefore please check this page on the day. Light rain is not usually a problem.
Please note that the walk will be continuous with no stops and it is your responsibilty to keep walkers ahead in view and to follow the direction of the walk.
**COST of EVENT**:
**All of the walks on this group are only £5 each to attend. Payment is not collected before the day of the event to allow you maximum flexibility. Why pay more on other groups for overpriced walks with no afterwalk socialising!!**
**The walk is free for holders of the Ken's Events Membership Card.**

Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy the weather! We meet Saturdays at 10am, halfway between the Reston *Container Store* and *Not Your Average Joes* (by the metal benches), leaving no later than 10:05.
Every week, rain or shine, we start by walking along the Green Trail to reach Lake Anne Community Center. Once there, we pause for water/bio (often staying a few minutes extra from April-November, due to the local Farmer's Market), and then we circle Lake Anne and head back to our starting point. It's roughly 3-4 miles and takes about an hour and a half.
Afterwards, some members will often head to *Not Your Average Joes* or another local restaurant for a quick drink/meal before tackling the day.
This event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Dogs are welcome, and we recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll walk rain or shine. Also, feel free to bring a friend!
By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.
Fairway Friends – Opening Round
## Fairway Friends Opening Round – Herndon Centennial
Join us for the **first Fairway Friends – NoVA meetup round** at **Herndon Centennial Golf Course**.
Fairway Friends is a relaxed golf group for **gay and bi men over 40 in Northern Virginia and the DMV** who enjoy playing golf, meeting good people, and getting outside during the week.
For our opening meetup we’ll play **18 holes** and get to know each other on the course. This isn’t a golf instruction group — just a group of guys who enjoy the game and good company.
All skill levels are welcome!
The goal is simple: play golf, meet like-minded guys, and build a small group that enjoys getting together regularly.
**Course:** Herndon Centennial Golf Course
**Format:** 18 holes
**Tee Time:** Around 8:30–9:00 AM (final time will be posted once we see how many are playing)
If you're interested, RSVP and we’ll coordinate tee times as we get closer to the date.
Looking forward to the first round.
Great Falls/Difficult Run 4.6-mile, water views
It's a little early for the Wearing of the Green, because the trees and grass are still brown. But you can wear green!
The trails in Great Falls National Park, Virginia, offer spectacular views of the Potomac Gorge and Difficult Run--especially now before the vegetation fills out.
This hike will be a repeat of January 4th, 4.6 miles at a leisurely pace.
We will start on the Old Carriage Road and winding Swamp Trail. Then onto the Ridge and Difficult Run Trails, including hills and a detour to a waterfall. Return ralong the Ridge trail and more difficult River Trail, which has short but steep hills; steps; mini-rock scrambles; and clifftop overlooks.
We will pause at several overlooks and finish at the overlooks of Great Falls.
Bring; hiking boots (no smooth-soled shoes), water, and snacks for a rest stop halfway through the hike.
Start time: Meet at 10:30 and start walking at 10:45.
Pace: average 2.0 mph (faster on the early flat section, slower on the later rocky section)
