FREE SUNDAY HIKE - Viaduct, River, Castle & Lavender: A Darent Valley Loop
FREE SUNDAY HIKE - Viaduct, River, Castle & Lavender: A Darent Valley Loop
Looking for a Sunday that feels like a soft slice of summer? Join us for a beautiful 12–15 km loop through the Darent Valley, where riverside paths, rolling green fields, and blooming lavender come together in one of Kent's most charming landscapes. This valley has been shaped by centuries of life and travel, and you feel it as soon as you step onto the trail. We'll pass beneath the towering arches of the Eynsford Viaduct, a Victorian engineering landmark that has carried trains across the valley since the 1860s. Further along, the route brushes past the historic grounds of Lullingstone Castle, a Tudor manor once visited by Henry VIII and home to the Hart Dyke family for over 500 years. From there, the path opens into the quiet lanes of Shoreham village and the purple shimmer of the lavender fields drifting across the hillsides. As we move through meadows, woodlands, and open countryside, the day settles into that easy summer rhythm where everything feels unhurried and lightly golden. It's the kind of walk where the scenery does the talking: the river winding beside us, the scent of lavender in the warm air, and the countryside unfolding in soft greens and purples — a Sunday that feels sun-warmed, peaceful, and just a little bit dreamy. We will head to a pub near the station when we finish for a pint or/and lunch. ## 📅 **Event Details** **Meeting Point:** Eynsford Station (Start / Finish) **Meeting Time:** 10:15 AM for 10:30 AM sharp start. **Distance:** approx. 12 to 15 km **Elevation:** \~300 m approx **Difficulty:** Moderate **Pace:** Steady **Estimated Finish:** Around 2 PM ## 🌿 **Route Highlights** * **Eynsford Viaduct Viewpoint** — one of Kent’s most photogenic spots, especially in summer light. * **Ancient woodland paths** around Ashen Bank, offering shade and cool forest air. * **Shoreham Village** — postcard‑perfect with its stone bridge and riverside charm. * **Darent Valley Path** — peaceful riverside walking with open fields and gentle breezes. * **Shoreham Lavender Fields** — with sweeping purple rows and great photo opportunities. * **Lullingstone Country Park** and **Castle** — meadows, woodlands, and a relaxed finish back toward Eynsford. We will then venture past the historic sailing ship, the Cutty Sark, through the Greenwich Foot Tunnel and along the canals of the Isle of Dogs to Canary Wharf. When we've reached Canary Wharf, we will then finish up at a pub nearby where you can grab a drink and get to know your fellow hikers a bit better 🍻 As always, owing to the size of the venue, we will be having to cap numbers for this event, and so do make sure you nab your place as soon as you can! **\- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-** **WHERE/WHEN WE WILL MEET** Meet Point - On the grass opposite the All Saints Church, All Saints Dr, Blackheath, London SE3 0TJ ([https://maps.app.goo.gl/RHaV8LUNJ521baVL7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/RHaV8LUNJ521baVL7)) Closest stations: Blackheath (5 mins walk) Destination: Brewdog Canary Wharf Meet Time - 2:00pm Finish time: 5:00pm Pub Finish time: 7:00pm-8:30pm (Approx) **\- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-** **JOIN THE COMMUNITY** Set up in November 2021, the project was set up to help young adults meet, connect and hopefully build life-long friendships. 💜 (Peak Flowering!) Cotswold Lavender Farm & Scenic Countryside Walk
💜 (Peak Flowering!) Cotswold Lavender Farm & Scenic Countryside Walk
################# **Explore Britain’s most stunning trails in a small group of up to 15, travelling together by private minibus to beautiful, remote locations not easily reached by public transport.** **We’ve created a list of [FAQs](https://drive.google.com/file/d/12gIZWTLfA3zQsx1fb0lpv1zOWP2vC5tq/view?usp=drive_link) to help answer your questions.** ################# There are never enough colours in our happy world, this time we're going to add a bit of the pure Roman magic – Lavender! This weekend, we're visiting a family-run farm near Snowshill village (or “Snozell” as locals say it). Apparently, it's so called because the snow can arrive here sooner, and persist longer, than anywhere else in the Cotswolds. Lavender growing started here back in 1999. The lavender loves the free-draining limestone soils 1,000 feet above sea level, giving the best growing conditions for the purest English Lavender Essential Oils. At the peak of the summer sunshine, the lavender is harvested and distilled by traditional methods and aged for a year before use. We're going to enjoy beautiful lavender fields and wildflowers in all their glory and take many amazing pictures. Of course, no visit to the farm would be complete without purchasing some lavender gifts for your friends and loved ones, or even tasting some lavender-themed foods at the tearoom! Beginning at the Lavender Farm, we'll then do a beautiful, undulating rural walk through pleasant woodlands and across green pastures of Cotswold valleys and hills. This circular route explores three picture-postcard villages of Snowshill, Stanton and Stanway, and climbs to the crest of the Cotswold escarpment. After the hike, you can enjoy a well-deserved pint at the traditional 15th-century Snowshill Arms Pub. **DISTANCE & DIFFICULTY** Distance: 8 miles (12km). Ascent: 340m. WALK DISTANCE: Approx 5 miles. WALK END POINT: The Barrell Vault at St. Pancras Station. WALK ROUTE: From Westbourne Park tube station we will take an afternoon walk along the GRAND UNION CANAL which takes us through LITTLE VENICE, REGENTS PARK ZOO, CAMDEN MARKET and GRANARY SQUARE to KINGS CROSS where we will finish with a drink in The BARRELL VAULT. WALK STOP OUT POINT: Nearby bus routes during most of the walk. Enjoy London! Get out and about and see your city in the company of new people! Explore and enjoy London's abundant green spaces and surprising surrounding countryside. Give up the city streets for a day and breathe some fresh air. Improve your overall fitness levels and make some great new friends at the same time. Take this opportunity to visit green parts of London, unknown to most people, and that you would not otherwise have an opportunity to see. Social Event: Our walks are social walks, where the emphasis is on meeting new people, enjoying nature, healthy exercise, and fresh air. Our walks are not interrupted with running commentaries or historical lectures, although occasionally features of significance may be pointed out. As such our walks will be continuous with few stops and it is your responsibilty to keep walkers ahead in view and to follow the direction of the walk. WE ALWAYS END THE WALK AT A PUB WHERE THE SOCIALISING CAN CONTINUE. RISKS for all walks: Please dress appropriately for weather conditions and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and be able to walk for four miles without a break. In these walks we use; pavements, cross busy roads, public parkland, towpaths alongside water, other public paths, rights of way, bridlepaths, country lanes and other established paths and tracks through woodland, bush and countryside. Please only wear good sturdy shoes, preferably walking boots and take care as surfaces may be uneven, tree roots may protrude, there may be low overhanging branches and some paths are also used by joggers and cyclists and sometimes cars (country lanes). Some tracks may be muddy and slippery. On occasion wild, domestic and farm animals may also encountered. If you require insurance for these walks then you must arrange this yourself. No large dogs or small children please. Please arrive in good time to allow opportunity to use toilets at the start of the walk as there may not be any toilet breaks available during the walk.
