Escape the city with NikouVibes After a busy week in London, sometimes the best thing you can do is escape to the sea. Fresh air, open skies, movement, and good people — honestly, there’s no better therapy. We’re heading to the coast for a feel-good hike from Ramsgate to Margate, with the option of a refreshing swim at Botany Bay and plenty of good NikouVibes along the way. Whether you want to meet new people, breathe in salty sea air, or just clear your head and reset, this coastal adventure is the perfect excuse to step away from the noise of the city. *London, we love you — but sometimes we really need a break.’* **The Plan:** * Ramsgate → Margate via Broadstairs * \~9-mile coastal walk, with a lunch stop at the iconic Botany Bay * Easy train from/to London (under 2 hours) * Relaxed pace, friendly and welcoming group vibes * Optional sea swim for those who fancy it **Optional Nikou-Style Finish:** After the hike, you’re very welcome to: * Grab a drink at a local pub together * Enjoy classic fish & chips by the sea * Hit the arcade and reliver your childhood for a bit \*Totally optional - join for as much or as little as you like. **A few things to know before you book:** * **Tickets:** Non-refundable, but if you can’t make it, you’re welcome to pass your spot on to someone else. A full refund will be issued if the hike is cancelled by the organiser. * **Getting there:** Trains to Ramsgate are usually around £28 return (off-peak) we will buy group ticket on a day. * **Meeting points:** Two options — travel together from London, Kings X, or meet us directly at Ramsgate train station if you’re coming from elsewhere. 😊 * **Weather:** The hike goes ahead rain or shine, so bring layers and be ready for all conditions. * **The route:** We’ll be walking along coastal paths near the cliffs. **\- What our group is about** Kings Speakers is a public speaking Toastmasters club which provides a relaxed and supportive environment for people who experience anxiety or fear when speaking in public. It offers the opportunity to practice in a safe space without judgement, helping you to build confidence and gradually overcome your fear of public speaking. Our meetings take place on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month (excluding public holidays) from 19:00 to 20:30. We gather on the first floor of the Windsor Castle pub, conveniently located near Victoria Station (nearest exit Cardinal Place). **\- What we'll do at our events** A typical meeting agenda includes prepared speeches, table topics (impromptu speaking), and evaluations. **1\. Prepared Speeches:** * Members prepare speeches in advance, following the guidelines of Toastmasters educational manuals. * These speeches are typically between 5 and 15 minutes long. * Members choose their own topics, but they often relate to the educational manuals. **2\. Table Topics:** * Table Topics is a segment focused on impromptu speaking. * A designated Table Topics Master presents a topic, and members (and sometimes guests) volunteer to speak about it for a short period, usually 1-2 minutes. **3\. Evaluations:** * Evaluators, who are assigned to each speaker, provide constructive feedback on the prepared speeches. * Evaluations typically include positive reinforcement, identification of strengths, and suggestions for improvement. * This element is considered crucial for helping members refine their speaking skills. **\- Who should join our group** If you experience anxiety or stage fright when speaking in public, if simple conversations, meeting people, and everyday social interactions are a challenge, we can help you push your limits to beyond what you thought possible. Overcoming your fear is easier than you think. You are welcome to come along to just observe without speaking or participating in any activity. You are also free to step into the spotlight during Table Topics to practice your impromptu speaking and boost your confidence! Don't let fear hold you back - join us and become a confident and compelling speaker! **\- Any dues or fees we plan to charge members** Guests can attend 3 meetings for FREE. After this, if you decide to become a member, the cost is £72 for 6 months (+£25 one off fee for new members) and includes access to **Pathways**. This structured program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to help you achieve specific communication and leadership goals. Continuing your journey through a Pathway will provide you with the tools and guidance necessary to reach your full potential. We expect from our members to select a Pathway. The Data Science Speakers Club is a Toastmasters International club enabling the current and next generation of Data Scientists to improve their Public Speaking Skills. This is a HYBRID Meeting! So join us Online via Teams or In-Person. Joining the Data Science Speakers Club means joining a supportive environment to build your confidence in public speaking and to practice speaking in front of an audience. You will also gain the opportunity to receive feedback on your speeches in a friendly environment, including what you have done well and guidance on the areas you can improve upon. We also run a mentorship program where an experienced mentor supports you on your public speaking journey. Each meeting is a mixture of prepared speeches by our members, speaking roles, and impromptu speaking challenges by members and guests. This is a new hike — a shorter version of our popular Surrey 3 Peaks route, designed especially for the winter months when daylight is limited and we have few tough hikes, a lot of the route is the same. Don’t be fooled by the distance though — it’s still a challenging and demanding hike. Your guide knows this area well and has written this route himself. We take on the two highest points in Surrey: **Holmbury Hill and Leith Hill**, following ancient sandy trails and woodland ridges across the **Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty**. Surrey is the most wooded county in England, and this route showcases its very best trails. Starting from **Holmwood**, our route climbs first to **Leith Hill** (294m), the highest point in the South East of England. Here the summit is crowned by the 18th-century gothic **Leith Hill Tower**, offering some of the most far-reaching views of any of our hikes — south to the sea and the South Downs, and north as far as central London landmarks on a clear day. From there, we continue along sandy trails and woodland ridges to **Holmbury Hill** (261m), where the remains of an Iron Age fort overlook the forested Weald below. **Toughness (Please Read):** This is a **very tough, and hilly hike** with over 600m of total ascent. Expect steep sections, some loose ground, and a short section where you need to use your hands it's so steep. The **pace will average 4.0–4.4 km/h** and **the hike will not be slowed down or cut short.** It is **not suitable for beginners**. Only experienced and fit walkers should join. If a participant is unable to keep pace or complete the hike, there are places they can arrange a taxi to leave the hike. This scenic 12KM + 6KM trail takes you through the picturesque South Downs National Park, offering stunning views and a variety of landscapes along the way. The walk finishes at Brighton beach where there are tons of beach side bars, a walk to the end of the peer where theme park rides, and also town coffee shops with street music playing. **WHAT TO EXPECT - HIKING INFO** Distance: **17km** Ascent: c.**250 metres** Estimated Duration (approx): **3.5 hours walking** depending upon the speed of the group and excluding any breaks. Come and get the chance to speak in a supportive and friendly environment. Public Speaking will boost your confidence and give you more power to speak and to be listened to in both your personal and professional life. **What makes this public speaking session different from others you ask?** There is a strong emphasis on self-expression, creativity, trial and error, and most importantly, speaking practice! **What will you gain from this event?** * Gain confidence by overcoming your fear of public speaking * Learn to think on your feet with our Impromptu speaking format * Get feedback and improve your public speaking with a real audience * Tips and opportunities to practice: body language, voice, tone, pitch, uses of stories, use of pauses, humour, etc... **Here's how it works:** \*I may choose to change the format from time to time based on numbers, and to practice different aspects of public speaking in order to keep it challenging\* You will put your name in a hat/bowl and when your name is chosen, you will be asked to perform. You will speak for 2 minutes on a random topic given by the audience. This is called an impromptu speech. We will do 2-3 rounds of speaking followed by a feedback session at the end of the workshop. **Public Speaking suggestions:** TIP: Give your impromptu speech the following 3 sections below. 1. Introduction ("Today, I'm going to talk about....") 2. Body ("Here is my personal experience....") 3. Conclusion ("So, my key message is ....") Each speech is to be 2 minutes long. Audience size 10-15 people. You're not obligated to speak, although I may strongly encourage you to do so. **What to bring:** Yourself only- There are no mandatory necessities which you must bring. **Dress Code:** There is no dress code. The seals in Norfolk are truly one of Britain's most special sights. Without any doubt, they're an incredible WOW factor and one that you must see! On this day hike, we'll walk along the top of the sand dunes and enjoy stunning panoramic views across the North Sea. On our way, we'll pass the much-loved grey seal colony at Horsey Beach, which draws thousands of visitors each year, **particularly between November and March**, when the seals come ashore to breed. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of seals and their pups stretching for as far as the eye can see! The whole walk is in the Broads National Park – one of fifteen national parks in the UK. You'll discover its iconic windmills, navigable waterways and broads (man-made, shallow lakes). With over 125 miles of lock-free waterways, the Norfolk Broads have more miles of waterway than Venice or Amsterdam, and are an extremely popular boating holiday destination! Locals like to call the Broads “the Venice of the East”. 💪 This walk is **suitable for all abilities** – it is almost entirely flat and done at a very gentle pace to allow us enjoy the nature and take plenty of pictures. **HIKE HIGHLIGHTS** * Watch seals and their young from a close distance at Horsey Gap, home to one of the biggest colonies of grey seals in Britain. * Take a gentle stroll over the vast open expanse of the golden sand dunes of Winterton Beach – a Nature Reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest. The area is a veritable haven for birds and all kinds of wildlife and is widely regarded as having the best sand dunes in Norfolk. * See the spectacular Horsey Windpump – the youngest and largest windpump in the Norfolk Broads. It was built in 1912 to pump water out from the surrounding land so that it could be used for farming. * Discover Horsey Mere, often regarded as one of the most beautiful of the northern broads and famous for its internationally important wildlife. * Walk the newly opened stretch of the England Coast Path – a new National Trail around all of England's coast, which once completed will be the longest coastal walking route in the world (4,500 kilometres in length!). **DISTANCE & DIFFICULTY** Distance: 6 miles (10km). The topic for February is "Transitions" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome.
