Spring South for Spring (14 miles)
The South Downs lie almost a degree of latitude south from London, so Spring arrives earlier. Flowers bloom, lambs are born, and before the Equinox the daylight sun shines longer. So head south - to the pretty village of Pyecombe to welcome Spring.
Pyecombe has something for everyone; *The Plough* nestles near the Wayfield farm shop and cafe which has locally sourced goodies. The 12th-C church grounds offer a peaceful spot for sandwiches. The name derives from Old English *pīc* for peak and *coomb* is a scooped valley hollow, a typical chalkland feature. And in this spirit the walk will be hills, interspersed by rests in the village.
[Home | Pyecombe Village Website](https://www.pyecombe.info/)
And the walk would not be complete without a well positioned hillfort, so expect one in the mix of this remix of the South Downs' best places.

IMPORTANT
Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes.
Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader".
Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen.
Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-)
By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer.
Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips:
http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/
TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE
Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel and (if required) accommodation - this gives everyone the freedom and choice to join from wherever they want and stay wherever they want. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered.
We advise not to buy tickets until the day. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

Wakehurst Place and other Wealden secrets: A circular from Balcombe
Want to know how to get into Wakehurst Place, Kew Gardens's Sussex collection of wild and exotic trees and home of the Millennium Seedback, for free? The answer lies in a little-known back door that will just be one of many Wealden secrets revealed in this 12 mile/19km ramble through hidden valleys with their evidence of long-lost medieval iron forges and tailponds, rhododendron-tangled woodlands and a few other bonus highlights besides.
Warning: although it'll be relatively easy walking in terms of ups and downs, the combined effect of Wealden clay and the weather we've been having means THERE WILL BE MUD. But also a good pub lunch as ever, so that's all ok. Marvellous - hope to see you there!

Retro DJ Mark Charade is spinning the sounds of a bygone era from vintage to vanguard, guaranteed to get you up and grooving.
Join the Scoundrels in The Underground for live entertainment and jolly good tipples until the early hours of the morning.
Many moons ago, a band of neāer-do-wells and Scoundrels chanced upon a hidden treasure beneath Londonās bustling Soho: the long-forgotten Kingly Court Underground Station. Once a 1940s air raid shelter, it had served as a makeshift refuge for all sorts, evidenced by the oddities left behindāold toys, piles of tinned food, dusty lampshades, and higgledy-piggledy furniture, all jumbled together in a cosy attempt at a āhome away from home.ā
When the Scoundrels unearthed this secret station after the war, they knew theyād struck gold. Splitting their operations between the Northbound and Southbound platformsāwith the Tube Carriage proudly perched in Northboundāthey set up shop, turning the station into their latest illicit hideaway. Here, they could keep the post-war spirit alive, flout the rules of rationing, and peddle top-notch bootlegged cocktails, all while throwing the most spiffing, swinging parties late into the night.

Let's try a Friday Night Fish Fry!
We thought of one of the interesting things that can be enjoyed at this time of the year. We will be meeting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for a "Fish Fry" in Marian Hall on Friday, March 27th at 5:00 PM.
It might be fun for you to experience what has become a tradition on the Fridays before Easter. They will have fried fish or baked fish, French fries and Cole slaw, as well as beverages, all for $16.00 for adults. They will have other beverages and desserts available for sale, as well. We have never tried this, and sometimes there are quite a few people at these events so we hope that we will be able to find each other easily. I'll try to have signs outside Marian Hall that Identify our group. We hope to have you join us!

Meet and Greet format....show up after 7pm, pay your $15 at the cash register, get your wine glass, and enjoy. I will get a table reserved for the group.
Remember, you may bring in your own food or takeout.
Attendance is your agreement to the Group's Waiver of Liability terms. See our Group homepage for details.

Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
***Okay, call me crazy but you have got to try their chip n dip!*** Club 185 is a true hidden gem in German Village! Seriously, old school, good comfort food and drink. We will try to gather in spaces near the windows. While we'll share Chip n Dip, you'll want to order a sandwich, too.
**Where the Chip Began (1817)**
Potato chips can be traced back to an English chef, William Kitchiner, who includes ācrispsā in his bestselling cookbook, āThe Cookās Oracle.ā
**Chip and Dip Popularity**
The popularity of chip and dip skyrockets at the end of World War II with new entertainment fads and the introduction of Liptonās new advertising campaign for their famous French Onion Dip. (Club 185 doesn't openly admit it, but I'm pretty sure that's their dip recipe!)
**[Club 185](http://club185.com/)**āa true neighborhood bar serving since 1954, when it was known as a local 'speak-easy'. Located in German Village, Club 185 features a menu of quality casual comfort food and full bar. From politicians to lawyers, hardhats to hipstersāall find Club 185 the perfect place to tame their hunger and quench their thirst!
**PARKING**: I know, brick street parallel parking can be a pain. Two other choices, metered parking along Livingston heading towards Children's Hospital or across the street in the large church lot (park in spaces farthest away from the church entrance doors, closer to the street).
**PRE-EVENT**: **HAPPY HOUR (3-5pm)**: Italian drinks and bites at [Cento's happy hour](https://centogermanvillage.com/menus/), nearby.
