BECKENHAM & BROMLEY MYN PUB EVENING IN ELMERS END
BECKENHAM & BROMLEY MYN PUB EVENING IN ELMERS END
We hold two pub evenings a month on the first and third Wednesdays, with all the other Wednesdays being Zoom pub evenings. We also normally have a monthly quiz on the last Wednesday of the month, during the Zoom evening, at about 9pm, where a different member of our group prepares the questions to be used each month. This means that tonight is an actual pub evening. We are meeting at the Elm Tree pub in Elmers End. This is an Irish pub and is between Elmers End Green and Elmers End tram stop/South-Eastern railway station. Parking is free in the nearby side-streets and in the pub car-park. There are quite a few bus routes in the local vicinity. Look for the IVC name on one of the tables. We usually try to sit towards the back of the pub on the right hand side, in the restaurant area.If you cannot find us, phone (but not text) Roland on 07761 265 390. Most members will be eating here tonight and the meal prices and menu are typical for this type of pub.

Day trip by coach - Two Pretty Towns & Two Neolithic Barrows in Kent! (NOW FULL)
Day trip by coach - Two Pretty Towns & Two Neolithic Barrows in Kent! (NOW FULL)
THE TRIP IS NOW FULL, IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND, ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST AND I WILL CONTACT YOU IF A PLACE BECOMES AVAILABLE. Come along on Saturday 9th May to visit two pretty towns and two Neolithic Long Barrows in the county of Kent! **About the trip** The name 'Kent' is of Celtic origin and dates back to the 4th century BC. It is one of the earliest names recorded in Britain and translates as '*coastal district*', '*corner-land'*' or '*land on the edge*'. The county of Kent has stunning countryside and a pretty coastline. It has been known as the 'Garden of England' for over 400 years due to its long-standing reputation for agricultural excellence, particularly fruit orchards, hop gardens, and wine production. **Kit Coty's & Little Kit Coty's Long Barrows** Kit Coty & Little Kit Coty's Long Barrows are the remains of elongated earth and stone burial mounds constructed around 4000 BC. They belong to a localised regional variant of barrows produced in the vicinity of the River Medway. Today, some large sarsens stones remain (some upright and some fallen over) with each weighing in excess of 15 tonnes each. The barrows and surrounding areas were excavated in 1957 and contained traces of the cremated bones of at least nine adults and possibly two children, and artifacts dated to Late Neolithic. Both the Long Barrows are close to each other (we can't get access to the Addington & Chestnuts Long Barrows). **Lenham** Lenham is a small market town in mid Kent and sits on the River Stour. Its on the edge of the North Downs with a history that goes back over 1500 years. In medieval times, the town would have welcomed pilgrims walking from London to the shrine of St. Thomas at Canterbury cathedral. The high street has many period properties from Tudor to Victorian times **Charing** The small market town of Charing sits nearby to Lenham, also on the Pilgrims Way, with Canterbury cathedral only being one day's walk away. The town made its money from the many watermills on the River Stour and has many period properties. **Coach seating** * If you wish to reserve a seat on the coach in advance, after you pay please look at the seating plan in the photos [here](https://www.meetup.com/london_cultureseekers/photos/35924729/533630883/) and then email me - [general@cultureseekers.org](http://general@cultureseekers.org), with the seat number/s you wish to reserve. Its first come first served. * The seat you sit on when you board the coach is yours for the day. Dinosaur Village (15 miles)
Dinosaur Village (15 miles)
In his 1822 *Excursions in the County of Sussex,* Thomas Kitson Cromwell describes Cuckfield as a small neat town. Around this time, local residents Gideon & Mary Ann Mantell were preoccupied with unusual artifacts cemented in the local quarries, including Mary discovering the first Iguanodon. Pieces of Iguanodon & Megalosaurus feature in the town's free museum. This walk features some free time in Cuckfield to pop in the museum or just grab a coffee. Up to you. After that it's plenty of Sussex Ouse Valley trails and Wealden woods with maybe bluebells still, culminating in selfie hotspot Balcombe viaduct, before returning to Haywards Heath. Outward Travel: Take the train departing 9.45 AM from London Bridge to HAYWARDS HEATH. The return train fare with a Network Card or GroupSave is £11.45. The organiser will see people on the train. People can liaise in front of the ticket office at London Bridge to arrange group train tickets. Walk start: 10.30 AM from Haywards Heath rail station. Bring a packed lunch. Villages & pub stop. Circular walk. *How to join?* * The walk is entirely free of charge; * You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses; * Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part); * Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself. See our quick safety tips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ *What to bring* * Plenty of water, 1-2 litres recommended * Enough snacks and packed lunch to keep you energized along the walk * Extra snacks and an extra packed lunch just in case * Rainproof (ideally waterproof) clothing, sturdy shoes/boots you don't mind getting muddy * Spare socks * Walking poles and/or an umbrella :-) * Yourself... * ...and your camera! * Cash for train ticket * Cash for pub at the end of the walk? Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section! IMPORTANT Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

Saturday Mornings @ East Market
Saturday Mornings @ East Market
Let's grab some coffee/food and share a morning chat! The East Market has an ample parking lot and outdoor and indoor seating. Grab a cup of coffee from Winston's Coffee & Waffles or on your way to East Market and meet us on the second floor - table behind or east of the elevator. Per what this group is about: "Everyone is welcome! International transplants to Columbus who want to improve language skills, Columbus residents who enjoy talking to people from other countries, and those who would like to discuss international travel and culture, and who enjoy getting together for good conversations."
