Spring is here with its sparks, its sunny spells and wild flowers. Love is in the air, baby animals all over the place and the nature is showing off with various dresses of greens, purple or pink. What a better season to visit our woodlands and fields, our castles and rich historic heritage? and you know what? IT IS BLUEBELLS SEASON! So this year, I am taking you on a new trail in the Kents Down, about 45 minutes away from London for what best countryside has to offer! There is no better season to visit our ancient woodlands and after a few months by the sea, it is time to enjoy nature at its best! We will walk 11 miles in the woods, the fields, in Castle grounds surrounded by bluebells, herds of the three species of deer that inhabit these ancient lands. We will walk pass two impressive middle ages buildings, first Knole castle, a stunner and Ingham Castle, the castle is a medieval moated manor house. The architectural writer John Newman once described it as "the most complete small medieval manor house in the county. The house is a Grade I listed building , and a stunning one! After this beautiful hike yet so close to London, those who wish will be welcome to join us at a pub or restaurant to fill our bellies or get tipsy. So now! What you should do you are asking? Well, click attend, send me some pennies and get ready for a lovely day out with the world's funniest people, the infamous Jonions and their mama!(me) 😃 INFORMATION: Distance: 11 Miles/16 km Duration: about 5 hours Steepness: Medium, a couple of short climbs, not too steep. Difficulty: Medium, there will be small hills so it is perfect for beginners or keen hikers alike. This coming Sunday we'll be returning to the Civil Service Club that is moments from Trafalgar Square. Social & Fun Backgammon at the CSC Whether you're a seasoned backgammoner or a newbie looking to learn this fabulous game that is thousands of years old, our social event is open to all. This is the perfect opportunity to sharpen your game, and share a laugh (or a lucky double six!) over backgammon. Add in a drink, maybe dinner, and you’ve got the recipe for a fun and relaxed evening. Venue Food and Drink Just a little reminder that when we use the Civil Service Club, we’re asked to buy at least one drink whilst we’re there, and hopefully food too. The Club has a nice range of food and snacks on offer, all at good prices, so it’s a great chance to relax and make the most of the day. About our backgammon social group Our group has been running for nearly 11 years since June 2015 and we have held nearly 500 official backgammon meetings - along with a further 250 off-grid (non meetups) since then. We are the largest backgammon group in the UK with over 2,100 backgammon members. What makes our group special are its members and the warmth, humour and friendliness whilst playing this splendid social game over a few drinks... usually fortnightly, and on a Sunday. We have about 30-odd regular members who play socially and we very much welcome new players too - so do come along. Dinner Time and Drinks and Food In between the rounds of backgammon many of us sit for a meal around 6pm, but you can order drinks and food whenever you like. RSVP Please RSVP asap - . Love seeing the different styles and size of boards - my boards have somehow gotten larger over the years. Come along on Sunday 12th April for a Blue Badge Guided Walk around Blackheath! Blue Badge Guides know London better than anyone. They have trained intensively for two years and passed the highest Tourist Guiding qualification in the UK. **About the walk** Many people visit historic Greenwich but very few venture to its more attractive but lesser known neighbour. The name is recorded in 1166 as *'Blachehedfeld'* and means the "dark coloured heathland". It is formed from the Old English 'blæc' and 'hǣth' and refers to the open space that was the meeting place of the ancient hundred of Blackheath. We will hear of the historic gatherings on the Heath, the first game of golf in England, a Queen who fell out of favour, an artist who caused controversy with his cheeky postcards and the author of a classic American novel. We'll see historic 17th century almshouses, an elegant 18th century crescent where two ladies scandalised Blackheath's polite society, ground breaking mid century homes, two Victorian churches and an unusual library. The walk is a private walk for the group, we will be guided by Blue Badge guides [Diane Burstein](https://www.guidelondon.org.uk/guides/dianeburstein/) and [Rachel Kolsky](https://www.itg.org.uk/register-of-guides/rachel-kolsky). The unspoilt market towns and villages of the Cotswolds have a quintessential English charm found nowhere else in the world. It really is a unique experience! We'll begin our hike in the charming old wool merchants' town of Chipping Campden, home to one of the prettiest high streets in England. Our trail will take us to the picturesque Cotswold villages of Broadway and Snowshill, through some of the region's best scenery: rolling hills (the “wolds”), ancient woodlands and dramatic escarpments with stunning panoramic views. The entire walk is within the protected Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), the largest of the 38 AONBs in England and Wales. Walk length 13miles/20km approx. Circular. A picturesque circular hike from Saunderton across fields and woods to Lacey Green Windmill, Hampden House and Bradenham Beeches We will have a snack lunch stop on Hampden Common which is also close to a pub. We will pass the Lacey Green Windmill, parts of the windmill may date from the 17th century. We pass the historic Hampden House which has been used in various films including Bridget Jones, Hammer House and Midsummer murders. We may see spring bluebells in some of the woodland sections. There is a pub very close to the station at the end of the walk. THIS IS A SUBSTANTIAL HIKE AND HILLY IN PLACES, PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THIS. Meeting and Transport, please read... Train from London: The 09.53am train from London Marylebone gets to Saunderton for 10.52am. I suggest you arrive at London Marylebone for 9.15am to give you time to get tickets and any group saves.
