Fixer's Collective Manhattan Fixing Session

Wed, May 20, 11:00 PM
From Hack Manhattan
4.7

Come bring your broken items in need of some TLC to Hack Manhattan for this month's session of the Fixers' Collective. All are welcome, whether you have something to fix or just want to observe and watch. We encourage people to bring in their items early, so we can devote the most time to the item. Subsequently, if you arrive in the middle of a fix, we’ll try to accommodate you as best as we can. Pay what you wish for our handiwork!! *Fixers Collective is a social experiment in improvisational fixing and aggressive asset recovery. Their goal is to increase material literacy in our community by fostering an ethic of creative caring toward the objects in our lives.* http://www.fixerscollective.org/about/

From Databricks Community Meetup NYC
4.7

# Polestar Analytics is partnering with Databricks to host something worth clearing your calendar for, an invite-only executive dinner in New York City on May 20, 2026. It’s built around one question every senior Finance and AI leader is wrestling with right now: **How do you free trapped cash, faster and smarter?** The evening is designed for real conversation, not sales decks: * Keynote by Amit Singh, Global Head of Partner GTM, Databricks * Session with Mohana Bhrugubanda, Industry Head – FSI, Polestar Analytics * Live demo of AI-powered working capital intelligence * Fireside chat with senior Finance & AI practitioners * Executive roundtable dinner, peer-led, off-the-record, and intentionally intimate Seats are limited, and the room is deliberately small. If you’d rather have an honest conversation than sit through another pitch, this evening was made for you. Register at this link if you're interested in joining us: [https://lnkd.in/ggGa3hXd](https://lnkd.in/ggGa3hXd)

Ego Free Jam - First Saturdays

Ego Free Jam - First Saturdays

Sat, Jun 6, 11:30 PM
From Ego Free Jam + Audiovisual Improv @ Delight Factory
5.0

The Ego Free Jam is a monthly night of improvisational music for musicians and sound makers of all skill levels. **WHAT HAPPENS?** Together we go on two improvisational music and sound making journeys - electronic and acoustic - each lasting about 2 hours, with emphasis placed on listening to and supporting each other. There will be space for dancing and body movement, feel free to make art, or just listen. There are no spectators, only creators. Allow for the magic to happen! The opening ritual is an invitation to overcome our resistance to self-expression. Take a little risk and delight in knowing that it didn't kill you ;) * 7:30 PM: Doors open, time to settle, mingle, try out instruments * 8:00 PM: Jam #1 begins * 10:00 PM: Jam #2 begins This is a shoes-off event. Bring your cushy socks & let loose. NOTE: We now alternate between electro-acoustic and acoustic-only jams. Even months are acoustic. March is electro-acoustic. **RESERVE A TICKET** *Pay as you're able (suggested $20).* Reserve [here](https://www.delightfactorynyc.com/events/ego-free-jam-nov-gjl8h-283ff). **GETTING THERE** **Subway** C to Rockaway Ave (exit closer to Manhattan), J to Chauncey **Citibike** docks nearby **WHAT'S THE INTENTION & VIBE?** The idea is to let go and allow ourselves to play. There are no audiences at an Ego Free Jam. We're all participants, even when we're just quietly enjoying the groove. Jams include musicians and sound makers of all experience levels. They are safe spaces where we explore our creativity and where we strive to support others in their explorations. Dancing, stretching, and art making are welcome. The Delight Factory has three areas, the main area is for music making, the bar and back yard areas are for conversations. **WHY ‘EGO FREE’?** The ego is the part of us that wants to keep us safe in the world and tries to make us NOT do something. It shows up as fear and embarrassment. When we get the urge to "do it right” out of the way, we can play, improvise, take a little risk, mess up, see that it didn't kill us, and feel the delight in that piece of freedom. **DO I NEED TO BE A MUSICIAN?** Not at all. You can pick up an instrument and improvise, vocalize, move your body, make something, or just listen. **WHAT TO BRING?** You are encouraged to bring an instrument, dancing body, art supplies, yoga mat, favorite toy, whatever inspires you and is fun for you. Or come as you are. We have percussion instruments, a piano, mics, & more. **CAN I COME FOR PART OF IT?** Sure! Try and come before a jam starts but you're welcome any time. Stay for however long or briefly you want! **THE SIX JAM GUIDELINES** \- Explore & Play\! \- No judgment \- of yourself or others\. \- Claim space: Do a solo\, stand out\, be loud\, and remember to stay connected\, listen to the others\, and step back when it’s time for someone else to claim space\. \- When in doubt\, listen to others\. \- No spectators\. \- Have fun\! **THE INTENTION IS FOR IT TO BE** \* Experimental / Exploratory \* Improvisational \* Spiritual \* Therapeutic \* Inclusive \* Playful \* Supportive \* Open **WHAT IT ISN'T** \* A Performance \* A Singalong \* An Open Mic \* A Party \* Getting/Doing it Right **COVID-19 safety** COVID is still here. Jason & Elke - [Delight Factory](https://www.delightfactorynyc.com/) founders \*\*\*\* "One of the great pleasures of making music with others is when all musicians are in sync, aware of each other, listening to the separate streams of each instrument merging into a river of greater sound and meaning ... A new field of consciousness is generated. It is a palpable experience" \-\- Jonathan Rose

Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree

Sun, May 31, 3:00 PM
From NYC Fantasy Book Club
4.8

**Regarding location - Google will may say that the Hugh is closed, but it is not. We will meet inside the food court and there will be sign holders on the table with the book cover on it.** From Good Reads: After a lifetime of bounties and bloodshed, Viv is hanging up her sword for the last time. The battle-weary orc aims to start fresh, opening the first ever coffee shop in the city of Thune. But old and new rivals stand in the way of success — not to mention the fact that no one has the faintest idea what coffee actually is. If Viv wants to put the blade behind her and make her plans a reality, she won't be able to go it alone. But the true rewards of the uncharted path are the travelers you meet along the way. And whether drawn together by ancient magic, flaky pastry, or a freshly brewed cup, they may become partners, family, and something deeper than she ever could have dreamed.
