Meetup: Grand Theft or Animal Rescue?

Meetup: Grand Theft or Animal Rescue?

Sat, May 2, 6:00 PM
From Direct Action Everywhere: People Who Love Animals
4.9

Four compassionate people entered a goat milk factory farm and saved the lives of two baby goats (Phoebe and Celia). The babies were sick with respiratory infections and likely would have ended up in one of the horrific (and illegal) dead piles at the facility. The facility was Vera Goat Dairy, a factory farm that supplies milk for the nation’s largest goat milk brand, Meyenberg, markets itself as ā€œCertified Humaneā€. The only ā€œhumaneā€ thing to ever happen at a Meyenberg supplier was the rescuers saving the lives of Phoebe and Celia! Meyenberg should be held accountable for the suffering and death they cause to animals. But instead… the people who rescued the goats are the ones being charged. Join us at this week’s Meetup to hear directly from the rescuers who are facing charges! If you can’t attend this Meetup but want to support the rescuers, you can come to their court support on May 19th: [dxe.io/courtsupport](http://dxe.io/courtsupport?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExODJORG9NV1ZJMGVXa2lBNnNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR5S-1ylKp_k6kh_MC1yFTdTjJZoNZ1ThjWEre1KXJZVep-k6gLvEr3BAL6ACQ_aem_hya1BSTCkohoqr2AjmfAKw) Fresh coffee, tea, and a delicious plant-based brunch will be provided at the Meetup as well! **Where:** Berkeley Animal Rights Center West (2414 6th St, Berkeley) **When:** Saturday, May 2nd 11am-12:30pm **What:** Community hangout and presentation \- ARC West is a 30 minute walk from North Berkeley BART and only a 10 minute walk from the 51B bus stop at University and 6th St\. \- Dogs that like other dogs are welcome at this event\! \- There will be plant\-based brunch and coffee\, donations accepted \- If you cannot join in person\, you can join at 11:15am on Zoom at this link: [dxe.io/meetupzoom](https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fdxe.io%2Fmeetupzoom%3Ffbclid%3DIwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExODJORG9NV1ZJMGVXa2lBNnNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR77KnGnHNk1CPuBcSDP4r1NvSNAmA9AWQW5vzx9G5syNCaxV_50UHCL7JmeSQ_aem_AZ0BRCc6ujJTGKGlqwUdTA&h=AT7dyh7yEmiXjAs4LlA7DoyUdkVzAranDSGWmrxaJAy0BxexbzTNLbfWAFvvr9e5VfbE1MDWoHRn4N_7KXNi0Pn7GqPbAeiHOYgUnXG7yF0bmLii741iMbg6txTg05XdEjADxYbv-GIsgWjBEsTuaMPGy8qkZ9Eb&__tn__=q&c%5B0%5D=AT45tB2sizJ6cCuWn6gomy_aRujpgZDT6vMfmDd4T8uu7xI8YE-Gc23I62kMHaL5EWvJe0X0xDJPqYz9_mVOHwkXyYMjKCsbl0RuXFh1PHrBsVpgsAmv3Ph1ek9YYSBb4C3W4FdXLqF6a1DrVuezDzUn7cPD8uBkD3U) Every Saturday at 11am we have Meetups for everyone and anyone who cares about animals and making the world a better place! Whole Foods: Shame on You for Selling Meyenberg

Whole Foods: Shame on You for Selling Meyenberg

Sat, May 2, 8:30 PM
From Direct Action Everywhere: People Who Love Animals
4.9

Please join us at 1:30pm, May 2nd, at Halcyon Commons to brief for a protest on the public sidewalk in front of the Telegraph Whole Foods. Whole Foods sells Meyenbergs Goats’ Milk which is a good enough reason to protest by itself, but on top of that, Meyenberg’s Vera Goats’ Milk Dairy factory farm is cooperating in the felony prosecutions of four of our activists. In May 2025, DxE activists rescued two sick baby goats, Phoebe and Celia, from Vera Dairy in Kings County. They supply milk to Meyenberg, the largest producer of goat milk in the United States. Nearly a year later, animal rescuers Carla Cabral, Sally Zito, Joe Allman, and Taj Uppal were charged with felony grand theft for rescuing Phoebe and Celia. The open rescue followed a months-long DxE investigation that found sick goats were denied adequate medical care, and dozens of dead mother and baby goats were regularly being dumped into an illegal dead pile on the property. Vera Dairy was cited by the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board in 2021 for improperly disposing of deceased animals, and DxE's investigation revealed this environmental violation was continuing years later. Meyenberg continues to get away with criminal animal cruelty despite reports made to the Kings County District Attorney’s Office and other local law enforcement, leading to no animal welfare enforcement actions. The Kings County DA has instead decided to use its resources not to protect the goats still suffering from neglect and cruelty, but to prosecute the compassionate individuals who tried to stop it. During this nationwide weekend of action, we will continue to expose the animal cruelty happening at Meyenberg and to demand that animal cruelty be prosecuted — not the animal rescuers who expose it. **WHEN:** 1:30pm, Saturday, May 2nd **WHERE:** Halcyon Commons - 3039 Halcyon Ct, Berkeley, CA **ACCESSIBILITY:** There will be some walking and standing. We’ll have a few chairs on hand in case anyone needs to sit. **WHO:** Everyone is welcome! If you're nervous, you can come observe or hold a sign quietly. Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) is a grassroots network of animal rights activists. We ask that all those who attend our events (online and offline) respect our Code of Conduct which can be reviewed at [dxe.io/conduct](http://dxe.io/conduct?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAYnJpZBExNWZJR3lxQlg4bnEwYXhtTHNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR4OZPRJfjsEZ5CiNK-SR8EJ_ylFvgXSsNA7qt4__25hQbUT3uWuLij3l8F4Uw_aem_WE14JzUerNXSvoEZKRBbwg).
