Every day, pigeons in San Francisco suffer from a hidden danger: string, fishing line, hair, and other debris that wrap tightly around their toes and feet, causing immense pain, infections, and sometimes the loss of entire limbs. During this event, we'll teach you how to safely spot, catch, and help these incredible birds before releasing them back to their families and flocks. We'll also be carrying food and toys to share with companion animals belonging to our unhoused neighbors because compassion doesn't stop with one species. This event is about building a kinder city for all animals. Whether you're a lifelong animal advocate or simply someone who wants to make a difference, this is your chance to turn empathy into action. You'll leave with new skills, amazing stories, and the incredible feeling that comes from knowing you made someone's world a little better. No experience necessary. We'll provide all the training and supplies. **A Stop-and-Go Festival Stroll (Sat, Oct 3)** San Francisco's **biggest** free music festival takes over Golden Gate Park the first weekend of October: six stages, 80+ artists, three meadows full of people on blankets. **500k-750k** over 3 days. It's the kind of thing that's much better with company than alone. So let's go together. Inside, we browse stop-and-go style: stroll along the festival grounds, stop at whatever stage catches our ear, listen for a while, and move on to the next. No schedule to keep, no must-see acts. Just music, people-watching, and good conversation along the way. If a set grabs you and you want to stay, stay. If you find your crowd and head off together, great. Parking near the park on festival weekend is very tough, so transit is strongly recommended. **Bring** The festival has security screening at the entrance. Clear bags move through fastest; small backpacks are fine. No glass. A water bottle, layers (the park gets windy and cool by late afternoon), sunscreen, and a small blanket if you want to sit. Outside food is welcome. **Good to know** The festival itself is free and needs no ticket. Our meetup is free too. Latecomers: if you miss the walk, you're welcome to enjoy the festival on your own and join us for dinner after. Sunday Kickball @ Bushrod Park!

BASS presents our favorite event, kickball! We will be at our normal spot in the East Bay at Bushrod Park in Oakland! Bring your soccer cleats (for better grip on the field), sunscreen, and athletic wear and water for a fun time out! For those who haven't played kickball before, the rules will be explained and demonstrated before we start. Depending on the attendance, we'll either have 2 teams facing off or a rotation of 3 teams all together. Then after we may hit the local pizza/bar scene if everyone still wants to hang out. We have a HARD START at 1pm, so please be sure to show up on time for warmups! (We also nearly lost the field previously because not enough people were there on time) See you there soon! 🔴 Note: Please, please, please don’t no show. 🙏 It makes these events really difficult to plan. If you no show once, you will be given lower priority for future events. The second time, you will be removed from the event list for any attendee limited event we host.

Bocce Ball Bonanza!

No walk today unless we want to do one late in the evening. It's Bocce Ball Bonanza! We will meet at the Bocce Courts at Joe DiMaggio Park in North Beach. 1 of our members has Bocce Ball equipment that they will bring, We may also try to get some Pétanque equipment. Bocce Ball is Italian in origin and Pétanque is the French version. So maybe we can have some friendly competition; Italy vs France! Please bring food and drink to share. Bring a cup or prepare to purchase one. I looked into reserving the Bocce courts, but can't figure out out how to do that, but the word is that no one is ever there in the evenings. So we should be good, but there are no guarantees. Also can anyone can bring camping lantern(s) because the courts are not lit. Hope to see you there! Please note: Phone help is not available for latecomers. If you are late it is very hard to catch up with us. We walk at a medium pace. Escorts or sweeps are not provided, so slower walkers should be completely prepared to finish the hike on their own if they become separated from the group, and they may want to consider bringing a friend to walk with them.
