HALLOWEEN EDITION! Blood on the Clocktower in Mission Bay!

***This is going to be Halloween-themed, come dress up as your favorite character, script, anything related to Blood on the Clocktower (only if you want to, not required)! Bring Halloween snacks and if we have at least 10 people in character costumes, we will build a script based on the characters present! *This year's Halloween Costume Run will be from Beeryland Oakland. B&B 1st THURSDAY for T1 Diabetes (at Drake's!)

Hi All, Hope you can come to the all-you-need-to-know about type 1 diabetes and all-the-type 1s-you-need-to-know meeting! And what better way with beer & pizza? Katie Craft from USCF Diabetes, Julia Philips from DYF, and I are co-hosting the E Bay Beer & Basals meeting. This is the former CarbDM "B&B" which we are continuing due to popular demand. Come to find out about the newest in diabetes technologies, devices, insulins, as well as practical tips and tricks for living our best lives. DIY Loop & DIY iAPS system users are welcome, although you don't have to be using any specific system or brand. All are welcome! It's a fun evening with other T1s, significant others, friends, and family. The meeting is a casual, 'gather-around' format. If specific topics are requested and can't be answered or given enough attention in the B&B meetings we can hold other ones as needed. WE WALK THE PRESIDIO FROM THE NORTH TO THE SOUTH & BACK

**UPDATES:** This is only the 2nd time we do this version of this walk. We had some bad luck the first time, Sep. 26th, as a young woman got sick. However, 3 of our attendees jumped in and helped her and took her to a hospital. The fact that they helped so fast showed how good some of our attendees are. For a couple days we had no one upload any photos of the walk and then 2 attendees uploaded 10 photos! This is a great walk, and the photos help show it. Below are the 10 photos: [WE WALK THE PRESIDIO FROM THE NORTH TO THE SOUTH & BACK (Sep 26, 2026) Photos](https://www.meetup.com/walking-in-sf/photos/36194637/) This walk is very special because we will start at the Northern part of the Presidio as we usually do, but we will head South to see special things such as Redwood trees, great views at Inspiration Point and wild animals such as coyotes. Also, we will visit the historic Presidio Officers' Club, which is one of the 2 largest free museums in the Presidio. When we walked this route last, Sep 26th, we had some good luck. We came to a large, fenced flower garden and we were the only people there. Also, our lunch spot had a half dozen wooden lunch tables and chairs. We had all of it for ourselves! We will gather at 11:00 AM in front of the Presidio's Transit Center at 215 Graham Street. We will end back at our starting point a little before 4:00 PM. The only cost is $5 cash per adult, kids always free. The $5 is collected at the middle of the walk. Attendance Max = 60. One guest is allowed per member if put on the RSVP. For most attendees the best way to get there is to take the free PresidiGo bus. It will leave the bus stop on Drumm Street in front of the Hyatt Regency near Market Street at 10:32 AM and arrive at our starting point, a little before 11:00 AM. The bus will stop to pick up passengers at other stops along the way. Then at Noon we will eat our lunches outside, not far from our starting point. Attendees have the choice of either bringing a sack lunch or buying one at the many food trucks and booths there. We may have to sit on the grass for lunch because we don't know how crowded the area will be Saturday. After lunch we will explore other parts of the Presidio such as Inspiration Point. We will be sure to get back to the Presidio's Transit Center before 4:00 PM because the PresidiGo bus going back to downtown SF will be leaving at 4:00 PM. However, there is a lot of up and down walking. This walking group is for humans only. No dogs or other animals allowed.

[Profs and Pints Alameda](https://www.profsandpints.com/sfbayarea) presents: **“Faith and Frights,”** a Jesuit priest’s take on religious themes in notoriously terrifying movies, with the Rev. Dennis Recio, S.J., lecturer in English and teacher of a seminar on horror films at the University of San Francisco. Forget depictions of fictional vampires, werewolves, and zombies. Nothing unsettles quite like a religiously themed horror movie featuring evil forces and evil beings that we might truly believe exist. Spend an evening confronting the power of religiously themed horror with Father Dennis Recio, a scholar of horror films on the same team as those priests you’ve seen warning of the antichrist, performing exorcisms, or getting hurled by demons out windows and down stairs. He’ll talk about what Hollywood gets right in its depictions of religion in horror films, as well as where it stumbles. He’ll explore why religiously themed horror often generates so much buzz and why it has so much appeal. He’ll start by describing how horror films are rooted in Gothic literature of the eighteenth century and derived from such literature a focus on the depiction of anxiety during periods of social and religious unrest. From there we’ll examine horror films with religious themes that attracted huge audiences and sometimes caused big stirs in the 1960’s and 1970’s, as the Catholic Church endured upheaval and change as a result of Vatican II. We’ll look at movies that drew attention with religious themes that suggest the possibility of the Devil entering the world through hapless or unsuspecting victims, including Roman Polanski’s *Rosemary’s Baby*, William Friedkin’s *The Exorcist*, and Richard Donner’s *The Omen.* We’ll consider films like *Alice Sweet Alice*, *Carrie*, and *The Amityville Horror* that ascribed to insular religious communities a peculiar violence related to their maintenance of religious practices. We’ll chart the rise of films like *The Conjuring* with narratives focused on lay persons as demonologists out to vanquish demonic forces. Father Recio will make clear that religious horror is not relegated to a focus on institutional religion. We’ll look at how it lurks in folk horror films such as *The Wicker Man*, *The Blair Witch Project*, and *The Witch* and their stories of fear and dread. Mission 5k fun run! | TBD

We host a weekly 5km run every Monday evening, starting and ending at a \*bar in or near the Mission District. We keep a moderate pace so no one runs alone – it's a fun run, not all-out. It is, however, recommended that you are able to run around 3 miles (5Km) consistently but if that's an issue, bring a buddy along or shorten the route to your liking. Join for a drink/snack/chat after the run -- we love to meet our neighbors!
