Pastries, Cliffs & Ocean Views: SF Urban Hike

Join us for a relaxed San Francisco urban hike combining neighborhood streets, coastal trails, historic sites, and big Pacific Ocean views. We'll kick things off at Butter Love Bakeshop in the Outer Richmond, where we'll grab some baked goods and coffee before setting off (we'll wait until 9:45am for any late arrivals). From there, we'll walk toward Sutro Heights and make our way through the Land's End area, after which we'll finish by walking toward Sunset Dunes for the final stretch along San Francisco's oceanfront. This is a casual-paced hike. We'll take our time, enjoy the scenery, stop for photos, and give everyone a chance to chat and take in the views. (Dogs are totally welcome!) Buena Vista Park & Sutro Mountain Hike (Haight Street Fair) Dogs welcome

**This San Francisco Urban Hike starts in the Duboce neighborhood and Park and will move up to Buena Vista Park with views of the bay the ocean and the bridge then we’ll go through Haight Street** **(Haight street fair)** **in the and the Haight-Ashbury district, with bazaar hippie stores, collection of retro clothes stores. The Haight is one of the few neighborhoods that was not hit hard by the 1906 earthquake. As a result, it has the highest concentration of still-intact Victorian homes in the city. We then make a way up to Sutro Mountain Home of Sutro Tower. Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park Hike 6.5 Miles

Join other east bay millennials for a \~6.5 mile hike with \~1000 ft elevation gain in Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. Location of the hike will be visible to attendees upon RSVP. Dogs are very much welcomed to join! Please arrive a few minutes before 12:00PM. We will start the hike shortly after 12:00PM. We'll do our best to hike as a group, but I'd recommend downloading an offline map of the area on Google Maps on your phone just in case you happen to get separated.

Please only attend this event if you feel like you are in shape to walk 6.5 miles with hills. If you have any health conditions that prevent you from exercising, this might not be the best event for you.

Back by popular demand, join us for a fun filled day of Grass Volleyball at Bushrod Park. Bump, set, spike is encouraged, but all levels are welcome! I'll bring the net and vollebyall(s), you bring the energy and fun attitude. You'll find us set up between the 2 baseball / kickball fields near Racine. Yosemite Camping - Tuolumne Meadows - Hiking n Alpine Lakes - Fall Edition

Camping, Hiking, and Beach play at one of the most pristine spots in Yosemite - around Tioga Pass Rd and Tuolumne Meadows. Spots are limited. People can do things on their own or with the group. Please respond to all the questions when you RSVP and I'll shortlist people for the lottery based on those who meet the pre-reqs. Will reach out to shortlisted people with next steps. **Your spot is confirmed only after you confirm via venmo/zelle** and there's no refund unless the trip is cancelled, so please commit accordingly. If someone can't confirm/pay within a couple of days, they will be back to No Go/WL. Tam State Park Science Quest Day. 19 Free and Unique Events over one very full day. Experts in Fire Science, Lichenology, Botany, Ornithology, Geology, Hydrology, and Astronomy provide in person experiences to highlight how science can deepen our understanding of our environment. Sponsored by Friends of Mt. Tam in Partnership with California State Parks Come learn about the small and cryptic world of lichens! We will meet at the Rock Springs trailhead, and walk a there-and-back-again trail to meet some of the charismatic lichens of the area. These grow on rocks, trees, and on the ground. Participants will get to know certain lichen species, as well as lichen growth forms, and lichen ecology. The hike will be easy to moderate, with frequent stops to look at lichens. Bring a magnifying glass or hand lens if you have one - lichens are even more fascinating up close! Dr. Klara Scharnagl is the Tucker Curator of Lichenology at the UC Berkeley Herbarium. She is continually fascinated by the lichen symbiosis, and the many forms that lichens take. Her emphasis is on lichen ecology; how lichens respond to and interact with their environments. Lichens remind us to take our time, and to look more closely at the world around us. **GENERAL THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT SCIENCE QUEST EVENTS** **CAPACITY:** Only RSVP if you are able to attend. Most events have limited capacity - No Shows will likely prevent someone else from attending. **PARKING:** We strongly recommend carpooling and arriving at least 30 minutes early to locate parking. Pantoll, Bootjack, and East Peak require a $8 fee - bring exact change! You can also pay through the Yodel app (https://www.yodelpass.com) . The Quarry Parking lot (just past Mountain Theater towards East Peak) is an option if Rock Spring Parking lot is full. Pantoll parking is very limited – BootJack sometimes will have open spots. Bus service schedule is available at https://marintransit.org/routes/61. **FAMILIES:** Hikes are suitable for families with children who are interested in nature and are comfortable hiking 2-4 miles. "Kid Friendly" events have no age limit. **DURATION:** Each timed event is scheduled to last no more than 2 hours (except Astronomy). **CANCELLATIONS:** Rain, red flag days, winds above 30 mph, and unforeseen circumstances will cancel. Most hikes do not pass by public drinking water sources. **CLOTHES:** Weather on Mt Tam can be very unpredictable and can change quickly. Dressing in layers is recommended. **STURDY BOOTS:** Trails are uneven, rocky and can be very steep in places. Sandals, sneakers, and running shoes are not recommended for hikes. **EQUIPMENT:** Many events are enhanced with Binoculars (Birding, East Peak Fire Lookout, etc.). Lichen hike recommends bringing a magnifying glass.For presentations at Pantoll, bring a folding chair. **Dogs(except for service animals)** are not allowed **Public Restrooms:** Available at East Peak, Rock Spring, Bootjack, Mountain Home, and Pantoll.
