Hike On! 10th Annual Picnic at Kennedy Grove (🥳)

Pastries, Cliffs & Ocean Views: SF Urban Hike

Join us for a relaxed San Francisco urban hike combining neighborhood streets, coastal trails, historic sites, and big Pacific Ocean views. We'll kick things off at Butter Love Bakeshop in the Outer Richmond, where we'll grab some baked goods and coffee before setting off (we'll wait until 9:45am for any late arrivals). From there, we'll walk toward Sutro Heights and make our way through the Land's End area, after which we'll finish by walking toward Sunset Dunes for the final stretch along San Francisco's oceanfront. This is a casual-paced hike. We'll take our time, enjoy the scenery, stop for photos, and give everyone a chance to chat and take in the views. (Dogs are totally welcome!) Weekly Hikes at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park

A Sunday at 3;00 PM moderate hike in addition to our regular Wednesday hikes at Redwood Park. This is a mostly shaded, 7 mile, 1000 feet elevation, moderate-paced hike at Oakland's Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. Enter from Redwood Gate https://goo.gl/maps/PrGuttC8dEnxN1KC9 We meet at Fishway Lot (the first parking lot on the left). Fishway is a small, unpaved lot closest to the entrance gate. Both Park Entry and Parking is free and there are 4 parking lots. At 3:00 pm we start with a meet and greet; and each person gets to share 1 or 2 things that made them happy this week. Please be on time and get to know your new friends during the hike. We leave for the hike at 3:05pm. Route to be determined day of the hike. Hike is about 3 hours. We stop at most trail intersections along the hike to regroup. Please make sure to bring enough water and clothes and respect for everyone and nature. If you cannot make it, please update your RSVP so others can join the hike. Participants assume responsibility for their own safety Doggie friends are currently not part of this group hike.

Casual Volleyball at Bushrod Park

Back by popular demand, join us for a fun filled day of Grass Volleyball at Bushrod Park. Bump, set, spike is encouraged, but all levels are welcome! I'll bring the net and vollebyall(s), you bring the energy and fun attitude. You'll find us set up between the 2 baseball / kickball fields near Racine. Autumn Equinox hike from Pantoll at 6PM

Join docent Franklin Young to celebrate the Autumn Equinox when day and night are both 12 hours long. We will take a short hike from Pantoll to Rock Spring where, weather permitting, we will see the sun set. We’ll return in the dark on the updated Easy Grade trail. The hike is limited to 19. Please sign up through MeetUp and check that site for update and cancellation notices.. Parking: Pantoll lot has a $8 fee(exact change or QR code). Please note that some nearby parking areas close after dark. Meeting Point: Friends of Mt Tam trailer at Pantoll Trails: Old Mine to Rock Spring and return by Easy Grade Distance: under 3 miles about 550 ft of climbing **Mandatory**: Headlamp or flashlight Recommended: poles, sturdy shoes, water

Bocce Ball Bonanza!

No walk today unless we want to do one late in the evening. It's Bocce Ball Bonanza! We will meet at the Bocce Courts at Joe DiMaggio Park in North Beach. 1 of our members has Bocce Ball equipment that they will bring, We may also try to get some Pétanque equipment. Bocce Ball is Italian in origin and Pétanque is the French version. So maybe we can have some friendly competition; Italy vs France! Please bring food and drink to share. Bring a cup or prepare to purchase one. I looked into reserving the Bocce courts, but can't figure out out how to do that, but the word is that no one is ever there in the evenings. So we should be good, but there are no guarantees. Also can anyone can bring camping lantern(s) because the courts are not lit. Hope to see you there! Please note: Phone help is not available for latecomers. If you are late it is very hard to catch up with us. We walk at a medium pace. Escorts or sweeps are not provided, so slower walkers should be completely prepared to finish the hike on their own if they become separated from the group, and they may want to consider bringing a friend to walk with them. Lichen Walk

Tam State Park Science Quest Day. 19 Free and Unique Events over one very full day. Experts in Fire Science, Lichenology, Botany, Ornithology, Geology, Hydrology, and Astronomy provide in person experiences to highlight how science can deepen our understanding of our environment. Sponsored by Friends of Mt. Tam in Partnership with California State Parks Come learn about the small and cryptic world of lichens! We will meet at the Rock Springs trailhead, and walk a there-and-back-again trail to meet some of the charismatic lichens of the area. These grow on rocks, trees, and on the ground. Participants will get to know certain lichen species, as well as lichen growth forms, and lichen ecology. The hike will be easy to moderate, with frequent stops to look at lichens. Bring a magnifying glass or hand lens if you have one - lichens are even more fascinating up close! Dr. Klara Scharnagl is the Tucker Curator of Lichenology at the UC Berkeley Herbarium. She is continually fascinated by the lichen symbiosis, and the many forms that lichens take. Her emphasis is on lichen ecology; how lichens respond to and interact with their environments. Lichens remind us to take our time, and to look more closely at the world around us. **GENERAL THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT SCIENCE QUEST EVENTS** **CAPACITY:** Only RSVP if you are able to attend. Most events have limited capacity - No Shows will likely prevent someone else from attending. **PARKING:** We strongly recommend carpooling and arriving at least 30 minutes early to locate parking. Pantoll, Bootjack, and East Peak require a $8 fee - bring exact change! You can also pay through the Yodel app (https://www.yodelpass.com) . The Quarry Parking lot (just past Mountain Theater towards East Peak) is an option if Rock Spring Parking lot is full. Pantoll parking is very limited – BootJack sometimes will have open spots. Bus service schedule is available at https://marintransit.org/routes/61. **FAMILIES:** Hikes are suitable for families with children who are interested in nature and are comfortable hiking 2-4 miles. "Kid Friendly" events have no age limit. **DURATION:** Each timed event is scheduled to last no more than 2 hours (except Astronomy). **CANCELLATIONS:** Rain, red flag days, winds above 30 mph, and unforeseen circumstances will cancel. Most hikes do not pass by public drinking water sources. **CLOTHES:** Weather on Mt Tam can be very unpredictable and can change quickly. Dressing in layers is recommended. **STURDY BOOTS:** Trails are uneven, rocky and can be very steep in places. Sandals, sneakers, and running shoes are not recommended for hikes. **EQUIPMENT:** Many events are enhanced with Binoculars (Birding, East Peak Fire Lookout, etc.). Lichen hike recommends bringing a magnifying glass.For presentations at Pantoll, bring a folding chair. **Dogs(except for service animals)** are not allowed **Public Restrooms:** Available at East Peak, Rock Spring, Bootjack, Mountain Home, and Pantoll.
