Beyond the Playlist: A Music Listening Club

Sun, Sep 27, 5:00 PM
From Beyond the Playlist

September: The Golden Age of Singer-Songwriters For our September Beyond the Playlist meetup, we’re going back to the golden age of the singer-songwriter through three remarkable artists and three defining albums: Bob Dylan — The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan (1963) Leonard Cohen — Songs of Leonard Cohen (1967) Joni Mitchell — Blue (1971) Before we meet, listen to all three albums from beginning to end. That’s it. You don’t need to know anything about the artists, the era or music theory—just listen and see what you think. Maybe you’ll discover music you never thought you’d listen to. Maybe you’ll rediscover an artist or album you thought you already knew. Maybe something will move you, surprise you, or leave you wondering what everyone else sees in it. All reactions are welcome. When we meet, we’ll have a drink and talk about what we heard: what stayed with us, what surprised us, what we loved—or didn’t—and how differently we each experienced the same music. For anyone who wants to dig deeper, I’ll also share some optional albums and other material to explore, but the three albums above are all you need for the meetup. No music expertise required. Just curiosity and a willingness to listen. Coming next: October — Trip Hop November — Neo-Soul December — Country Each month we’ll explore a new musical world through three artists and three defining albums. Sunday, 27 September 2026 6:00–8:00 pm The Black Horse 6 Rathbone Place London W1T 1HL A few minutes’ walk from Tottenham Court Road station.
