11kms Beaches to Malabar Headland Hike!!! Microbrew & Food Truck Finish!
Sat, Feb 21, 10:30 PMBeach to National Park Headland to Microwbrew & Greek Food Truck?!?! Absolutely. Team, how have we not been to Botany’s microbrews? Looks like there’s a few of them with a stunning hike in between. Let’s check it out for a cracker of a Sunday session. THE HIKE. 11kms. Coogee Beach… we all know it. It’s a beauty. We'll meet just by Coogee Pavilion at that huge chair in the grass - it's actually a sculpture called "The Impressionists' Seat"... hiking along beautiful Coogee Beach. South Coogee turns a bit more tranquil with gorgeous cliff views and crazy-beautiful homes. We’ll twist and turn to Maroubra Rocks and Beach… looooovely spots. The rockpool at Maroubra is one of the prettiest on the coast. To Malabar Headland we goooooooooo! I don’t think I’ve ever done it, and it looks a treat. Around to Malabar Beach then a 1km neighbourhood walk to the bus, and One Drop Brewing Co. is close (if you have to leave after the hike, that’s understandable – it’s Sunday after all). Botany has quite a few microwbrews (who knew), and One Drop is super excited to host us. I’ve chosen this one ‘cause Avli Greek Food Truck will be on site… who doesn’t love a beer and gyro post hike! Yes. A perfect Sunday Session. The 309 bus is close by and drops at Redfern. **THE OTHER STUFF** a) **Be on time.** If you’re late? Catch up. Please don't call, message. Just catch up. b) **$10** Cash or PayID. c) **Fitness matters here.** Sure, the pubs sound great, but we are hiking in National Park. Be prepared. d) **Honour your RSVP.** No shows get banned from the group. **I put my credit card down for a reservation – your reservation.** e) Bring mates, dates, etc... f) **[JOIN OUR WHATSAPP GROUP HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/INreRZWllSz24JVvPJ2DUj?mode=gi_t)** ***In pressing the “Attend” button for this hike, you acknowledge that:*** a) You are healthy and fit to complete the hike describe; b) You have read and will follow [NSW National Parks Bushwalking Safety Guidelines](https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/safety/bushwalking-safety) for this hike; c) You have no chronic / underlying health issues that deter you from completing this hike; d) You understand your host is just that – your host, not a professional hiker – and that you and you alone are responsible for your hiking health, safety, and wellness; e) You’ve been advised to download the “Emergency Plus App” and f) You’ve been advised to obtain individual [hiking insurance from 1Cover](https://www.1cover.com.au/adventure-travel-insurance/hiking-trekking/?utm_source=google&utm_source_platform=gads&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=13564994076&utm_term=adventure%20travel%20insurance&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=13564994076&gbraid=0AAAAAD_bfRAu6Io5ZkHeiIYCP_evtsQ_z&gclid=CjwKCAjwz5nGBhBBEiwA-W6XRLm8Itjn1am8sdPMxVhBtRmsDOWkolLlVATJcXW5jW-9JgB7hb9kMhoC7M0QAvD_BwE). g) Over 60yrs old, and new to the group? EASY WALK & KAYAK ADVENTURE DAY - 5km forest walk + 2hr kayak - Narrabeen
Sat, Feb 21, 10:15 PMLet's make the most of this last week of summer with an easy adventure which is the very best of bush and water experiences in Sydney. From Narrabeen shops we'll catch a quick bus to the top of the Garigal National Park escarpment and do a super easy walk downhill on a beautiful rainforest trail. At the bottom we stop for lunch, and the organiser transfers everyone a short way by car to the local kayak shop, where we hire kayaks to cruise on the beautiful protected lagoon for 2 hours, finishing back at our morning start point by about 3pm. Afterwards join us for drinks and fab food at the local texmex bar right by the lake. What better way to spend a Sunday? . **THE PLAN** **Optional pre-start coffee & breakfast**: We'll be gathering from 8.15am at the [Grumpy Expresso Bar](https://grumpyexpresso1417.com.au/) (next to our start point at the Narrabeen B-Line bus stop, Pittwater Rd, Narrabeen). There is a toilet here. **Official start** Meet the group at 9.15am SHARP at the B-Line bus stop next to the Grumpy Expresso Bar. **Quick bus trip to start of bushwalk** We'll catch two connecting buses up to the top of Garigal National Park escarpment to the start of the forest trail - total 30 minutes bus trip. Don't forget your Opal card. **Easy downhill bushwalk** * First a 1 km flat fire trail across the edge of the escarpment. Stop for morning break at dramatic crags with epic views of valleys and ocean. * Then walk another 1 km downhill to enter a beautiful dark magical rainforest, and follow it for 3km along a flat trail to a lovely park by Narrabeen lagoon. * Stop for picnic lunch, water refills, toilet break. * During lunch the organiser will ferry everyone by car 4km back to the kayak shop. **Easy 2 hour kayak session** * Check in at the kayak shop and pay for our hire kayaks ($40 per person for 2 hours). * The group paddles slow around the lagoon, between the beautiful islands, pausing at the big sand dunes and beach for big views of the coast, and slow paddle back to the shop. Total paddle 5 - 7 km, distance to be managed depending on how much energy everyone has, nothing too hard or rushed. * Aim to finish 3.00-3.30pm at the kayak shop. **After-party** If you like, stay afterwards to relax with excellent drinks, fab food and good company at the TexMex bar close by on the lake shore and right next to the bus stop. . **IS THIS ACTIVITY OK FOR ME?** This event is fine for beginner walkers and beginner paddlers. You just need basic fitness and mobility. The 5km bushwalk is very easy: an open fire trail for 1km, then a steep but easy 1km dirt track downhill (give this walk a miss if you have very bad knees on downhills), then 3km of almost completely flat dirt trail through the rain forest. Paddling is not about having big upper body strength, and you don't need previous experience and training for this beginner paddle. The leader will give you lots of coaching on how to paddle efficiently using your leg and core muscles instead of your arms, so that you don't get tired. To paddle you will be swivelling your shoulders and torso a lot, so you should not do this activity if you have injuries to shoulders, elbows or spinal joints, or if you have a hernia in your torso. Safety comes first: We never ever leave anyone behind either on the trail or the water - beginners are taught, supported, encouraged and included. The kayaks are stable wide bodied boats which are simple to paddle and very hard to fall out of, and everyone is required to wear the provided bouyancy vests for safety. . **GRATUITY** Please contribute $15 cash to help cover the group's operating costs. You can * bring $15 exact cash on the day, or * make a PayID bank transfer to the organiser's phone number 0411 600 717 in the morning before the start of the event. This contribution is in addition to and separate to your $40 kayak hire fee which you pay directly to the kayak shop on the day. . **TRANSPORT** *By car:* * You can get to Narrabeen via Military Rd and Pittwater Rd from the city, or via Mona Vale Rd and Pittwater Rd from the north and northwest suburbs. * There is free parking in the Narrabeen St carpark (right next to the kayak shop) and in adjacent residential streets, but on sunny days spaces can be hard to find so arrive at least 30 minutes early. * From Narrabeen Street it is then a 300 metre walk to the right along pathway on the edge of the lake to our meeting point at the B-Line bus stop next to Grumpy Expresso Bar. *By express bus from Wynyard station:* * Take the B1 bus (City to Mona Vale servcie) at 8.35am from Stand B in Carrington Street, arriving at the B-line stop at Narrabeen shops at 9.15am. * If you are joining us earlier for coffee/breakfast at the expresso bar, take the 7.55am B1 bus, arriving at Narrabeen at 8.33am. * See trip planner at [www.transportnsw.info](http://www.transportnsw.info/) for connections. . **BRING** * Opal card for the bus trips * morning snack & lunch * water bottle (there are refills along the way) * bushwalking shoes * sun protection is ESSENTIAL (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen) * insect repellent is ESSENTIAL for this walk * light shirt & shorts to walk & paddle in (can get wet in the boat), * normally we paddle barefoot, but if you want to wear shoes in your boat bring a spare pair that you don't mind getting wet * warm jacket (even in hot weather you can get chilled in the breeze) * towel * dry change of clothes **There will be secure arrangements to leave your bag and valuables at the kayak shop, but if you want to take them in your boat make sure you put all of your things in dry bags or heavy duty plastic garbage bags inside your bag to keep them dry.** **Protect all electronics (cards, phone, keys) in a waterproof container such as a well sealed sandwich box.** If you wish to take pictures with your phone whilst paddling, make sure it is in a dry case with a secure cord (can buy these at the kayak shop) as it is extremely easy to drop it in the water. . **DISCLAIMER** By your RSVP to this event you agree to the conditions of membership and participation which you can read in the ABOUT US section [HERE](https://www.meetup.com/sydney-adventurers-40plus/messages/boards/thread/53730628).

Wedding Cake Rock, Beaches & Wine. 17kms Royal National Park Coast Hike!
Sat, Feb 28, 10:10 PM**First hike of Spring! The Royal National Park...** It’s been a while for our group, so let’s get back into it with a fuckin’ delightful, moderately challenging hike in the 2nd oldest National Park in the world! And if you’ve never been to The RNPark… well, this is THE perfect intro session to tempt the taste buds. Then? You’ll want more. Believe it. **THE HIKE.** **The Bundeena Ferry.** It’s the oldest ferry in Sydney (+85yrs), and you’re gonna love this “Little Engine that Could” (my favourite book that Mom used to read to me) experience to start off the day to our hike start... **Little Jibbon Beach.** Wow. A stunning beach stroll surrounded by National Park. **Jibbon Head & The Royal National Park Coastal Hike.** It starts here… perfect views. Whales. Beautiful coastline in the 2nd oldest National Park in the world. **Wedding Cake Rock.** You’ve seen the photos. Now see it in person. It’s pretty damn cool. **Marley Beach & Little Marley Beach.** Two loooooovely beaches. We’ll stop at Little Marley for views, snacks, and a rest before turning around. **Bundeena** is a gorgeous little town… Quiet. Artsy. It’s a one of a kind place in Sydney. The distance… *10.30kilometres from Bundeena to Little Marley Beach, and it’s 6.75 kilometres (smaller map pic) back* as we take a shortcut up the ass-end of Bundeena to get to the beers / food more quickly! **Timing...** we meet at 915am at the Cronulla Ferry Wharf (5min walk from train station). It's easy to find. **THE FOOD & DRINK.** Cronulla is such a cool little town… let’s find something there (no stress if you head back early on the train). Cronulla RSL Club has beautiful ocean views, and the town’s Corso has endless Thai, pizza, burritos, etc… It’s Sunday, so we won’t get as loose as we normally do, but let’s “cheers” with a nice meal / beer, wine because that’s what we do! If you're thinking "Wow, that's a journey" please stop because it’s 110% worth it. I loooooove this National Park and Coastal Hike. See you for a beauty. MJ **[If you hit the "Attend" button, the next step is to join our whatsapp group HERE](https://chat.whatsapp.com/HRlFWWSmN9hE0ESK7tTwmp)**. **THE FINER PRINT.** **Cancels / No shows.** Treat your RSVP like a restaurant reservation. *No show / cancel on the day?* That restaurant is my hiking group – you won’t be welcomed in the future. Respect and manners matter. **Safety.** Let’s chat, let’s have some laughs… but let’s be safe. Let’s concentrate and enjoy Mother Nature – The RNPark deserves our attention. **Cost.** $10 PayID or Cash. Please note Bundeena Ferry is extra / not part of the Opal card network. **Transport.** I’ll be on the train to Cronulla. Drivers? Cronulla has free parking, but DIY research. Another option is free parking at Sutherland (when you use your Opal card), then a 15min train ride to Cronulla Station. **BYO…** Pack your backpack properly. National Park hikes are real hikes. Water. One bathroom stop when we arrive in Bundeena. Extra socks. Hand towel. BandAids. Food. **Fitness.** Yup. Fitness matters for this one. Real hiking. ***In pressing the “Attend” button for this hike, you acknowledge that:*** a) You are healthy and fit to complete the hike describe; b) You have read and will follow [NSW National Parks Bushwalking Safety Guidelines](https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/safety/bushwalking-safety) for this hike; c) You have no chronic / underlying health issues that deter you from completing this hike; d) You understand your host is just that – your host, not a professional hiker – and that you and you alone are responsible for your hiking health, safety, and wellness; e) You’ve been advised to download the “Emergency Plus App” and f) You’ve been advised to obtain individual [hiking insurance from 1Cover](https://www.1cover.com.au/adventure-travel-insurance/hiking-trekking/?utm_source=google&utm_source_platform=gads&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=13564994076&utm_term=adventure%20travel%20insurance&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=13564994076&gbraid=0AAAAAD_bfRAu6Io5ZkHeiIYCP_evtsQ_z&gclid=CjwKCAjwz5nGBhBBEiwA-W6XRLm8Itjn1am8sdPMxVhBtRmsDOWkolLlVATJcXW5jW-9JgB7hb9kMhoC7M0QAvD_BwE). g) Over 60yrs old, and new to the group? Great North Walk Section 5 - Mount Colah to Mount Kuring-gai
Sat, Feb 21, 9:00 PMThis is 5th section of GNW. This is much better signposted than our last section - for those lovely people who tried that! Whilst rated hard, the worst bit is actually at the end where the walk out to Mount Kuring-gai is tough given it is at the end - and up a steep fire trail. As always we will look after you the whole way. Note: there are **no** options to drop out part way, other than turning back - or going the whole way to the end. Toilets are only at the beginning and end too. We have done this walk many times, so we understand the conditions. You will need 2-3 litres of water and (optionally) Gatorade/Powerade/Hyrdalyte. Hiking/trail running shoes (or boots) are strongly recommended, as are hiking poles. Bring a hat and snacks as well. **Meet**: On the rail overpass at Mt Colah Station at 8:00am. See [https://what3words.com/hype.damage.farms](https://what3words.com/hype.damage.farms) **Distance, Time, Effort:** 16.13 km distance, About 4.5hrs (based on our usual pace), Moderate/High effort. **Public transport example:** Train from Central Platform 9 at 06:48am gets to Hornsby at 7:26am. Hornsby to Mt Colah is 7:37am Platform 2 gets in at 7:43am **Driving:**YParking at Mount Colah (start) is on Pacific Highway or Parkland Rd.
