Seniors - Interactive & Therapeutic Music Session - Playing, Jamming, Dancing!

This meetup group is all about appreciating the wonderful music (pop, soul, rock, jazz) of decades past, roughly encompassing the 50's to the 80's. We use music to facilitate interaction and for the therapeutic benefits, especially for seniors, of rhythm-based music therapy. As a professional drummer and songwriter, I have found that listening to and enjoying music from a rhythmic standpoint has great benefits for people of any musical background. The only requirement is that you enjoy music too! This particular group is open to all individuals in the area who are at least 55 years in age. I have carried out many sessions like this with great results, as I especially love bringing joy to seniors, who too often don't have viable social opportunities and don't have any way of revisiting good memories from their youth via music. The primary reason to join this group is to HAVE FUN! To expand on that, the fun you have during these sessions is based on simultaneous appreciation of music and positive social interaction with an individual who is not necessarily in your age group (ME!). If you would like to enjoy not just listening to music, but interactively getting INSIDE the music by rhythmically playing along or clapping, then join! If you are looking to meet other like-minded, music-loving seniors, then join! If you want to have a unique experience enjoying music you love while creating lasting friendship, then join! While I certainly offer musical knowledge with each session and information regarding the instruments and the music that I bring, my priority is for you to have a great time while also possibly learning something about music! In a typical session, we begin by chatting for a few minutes about music (or any other topic!). Oftentimes, I will then do a quick performance to demonstrate the rhythmic approach to listening to music. Then, I pass out small instruments to whoever may be interested while we play, sing, clap, and dance! If you have limited mobility, you can still join in with small percussion instruments that I bring, or you can simply watch and listen. You will forget your aches and pains for an hour as we jam together within the context of music you love, like Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, Benny Goodman, the Grateful Dead, Michael Jackson, and a whole lot more. I often dance with and interact with everyone in the room while we play our instruments and forget our worries inside the music. If you're a senior who loves music, join our group today! Scenic Walk in the Gardens @ The Huntington (Pasadena)

Have you been to The Huntington? I was able to get 12 FREE Tickets (save $29) for Thurs. 10/1/26. Great place to casually go walking to enjoy the botanical gardens, collections of art, history and literature. Parking is free, but get there early to snag a good spot. Bring a bottle of water with you and wear some good walking shoes. Afterwards, we can enjoy lunch there at their cafe (we'll need to snag a table or two) while others get in line to make their dining choices. CA Del Sol Happy Hour! This is a pre happy hour before our 7 pm Halloween walk

Either extend your weekend or start your new week off right !!!! We will be doing a short less than 1 mile walk to enjoy CA Del Sol happy hour on Cahuenga . We did this event a few times and it was a fun event . Bring as many 5 dollar bills as you like as this is what the online menu states is the price for the happy hour items. This is a pay your own event . Restaurant likes to do one group tab so bringing cash for your share is easiest . Great short social event for first timers. Initially walking to happy hour from north weddington at 4:30 . We will be at restaurant from 5:00 to 630 then walking back to park to start 7 pm halloween walk . If running late you can meet us at restaurant during the 5 to 6:30 window . We will be starting this happy hour and the regular walk from park location . Join us for one or both events

Let's go to the California Avocado Festival in Carpinteria by Train!

What could be more quintessentially California than a festival paying tribute to the Avocado, full of different guacamoles, and getting there on the Pacific Surfliner? This is the 40th year they've been having this festival. There is even Avocado ice cream! Entry to the Festival is free, and the booths are sponsored by local non-profits to raise money for their worthy causes. We've done this trip a couple of times, and it's always been fun. This unique festival is in Carpinteria, only a couple of blocks from the Carpinteria Amtrak station. It's one of the largest festivals in California, with three days of fabulous food and terrific music. As the Festival has grown, so do the number of participants and festival-goers. In past years, over forty non-profit groups benefited by catering to 100,000 avocado visitors. The California Avocado Festival™ itself is a non-profit group that generates its own operating revenue each year. The annual event is completely organized by a committee of volunteers, and includes one part-time staff person. Our group will take the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles, to Carpinteria. We'll walk to the Festival from the Amtrak station, just a few blocks.
