A Very San Francisco Summer Picnic Potluck and BBQ - Golden Gate Park

A Very San Francisco Summer Picnic Potluck and BBQ - Golden Gate Park

Sat, Sep 5, 6:00 PM
From San Francisco Foodies

**A Very San Francisco Summer Picnic Picnic Potluck and BBQ** **A Fundraiser for *Tenderloin Tessie*** *September* is the start of a San Francisco summer, and San Francisco Foodies is taking advantage of the cool, but not cold weather for an outdoor potluck picnic in wonderful Golden Gate Park. *Tenderloin Tessie* is a very San Francisco Non-Profit who provides Holiday meals (Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter) for people who do not have any local family to spend the holiday, mainly San Francisco's Elders and new arrivals. *Tenderloin Tessie* has been doing this every year for over fifty (50) years, different than similar non-profits, their dinners treat the attendees as diners to a full service dinner. A five ($5) dollar donation can be sent through *[Tenderloin Tessie's](https://tenderlointessie.com/#)*[ website](https://tenderlointessie.com/#), San Francisco Foodies doesn't act as a middle person for their donations, nor do we profit. This is a return to the *Potluck Picnic format with grills available.* A potluck is where each attendee brings something they either made or bought from a restaurant that matches the theme, our theme is *San Francisco Labor Day*. Bring a dish that reflects your work, or the work you want to do. Artsy, mechanical, all forms are welcome. Our site has grills for the finishing marks and heat, and also for sliders, hamburgers and hotdogs, add condiments to make them as foodie as you want. We'll have a ***Condiment Swap***, a **Recipe Swap** and a ***San Francisco Foodie Recommendation List*** (*and a catchy name for the list)* for restaurants, Pop Ups, Bars, Festivals anywhere food can be found. I'll publish after the picnic. Also, a meeting for ***New Organizers*** and those that may want to host events. ***Come join our group of thirteen event organizers.*** Please bring a Potluck dish of your creation to feed about six people, or from your favorite restaurant, Roast Pork, Dim Sum, Sandwiches, Pies, Cupcakes are always a hit. To signup with what dish you are bringing use [eventbrite link](https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-very-san-francisco-summer-picnic-potluck-and-bbq-golden-gate-park-tickets-1998249642472?aff=ebdsshcopyurl&utm-campaign=social&utm-content=attendeeshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=), which will also create a nice pass to remember this event. **Agenda** * 11 - Site Setup * 11:30 Cooking for those items that need a touch of heat. * NOON - Eating and Greeting * 1 - Condiment Exchange (described below) * 1:30 - Recipe Exchange * 2 - San Francisco Foodie Recommendations (described below) * 3 - Clean Up and Until next year! First at least a $20 donation is requested for our *Non-Profit of the year*, a URL for where that donation can be sent (HERE TBD). Second I am asking for *volunteers*, to help check people in, take donations and organize the food and drinks. I will have a separate dinner event to thank the volunteers, but you need to sign up for both, and when you sign up here, please put in the comments if you would like to volunteer, first come first chosen. All volunteers are invited to an after party starting at a famous San Francisco Restaurant, *TBD* ***None of the restaurants and shops mentioned are sponsors of this event***. *Alcohol (Beer and Wine) is allowed, as long as it's not in glass containers.* Now.. what will we do there for three hours besides socialize with others in our community? I'll fill in more as we march closer. 1. All attendees can participate in *San Francisco Foodies* *Restaurant List*. This will be a non-ranked list of Twenty-Five amazing meals from the great attendees. 2. **Ingredient Exchange**: Bring some of your ingredients that you don't want, or have too many of; *you know that one in the back of your cabinet;* and we will exchange them. *Use event comments to hype yours, sending them to a new cook.* 3. **Recipe Exchange:** Bring a recipe and exchange with the various foodies who come. *As a note.. San Francisco Foodies won't charge any place to be listed, if they don't want to be on our list they can opt-out, and we do not have any pay advertising.* **History** For the past eleven years I have hosted a picnic to raise money for a *San Francisco* Non-Profit. As I said above, this year's non-profit is *[Tenderloin Tessie](https://tenderlointessie.com/#)*. We've held this in various picnic areas in San Francisco's World Class Golden Gate Park. We had a high of 135 people at this site in 2019, then of course 2020 had lock-downs, but we were given permission having our reservation so far in advance but only twelve lucky people were allowed to attend by San Francisco Parks and Recreation and we made the most of it, and with an additional fundraiser sent some money to *Holiday Meals - Tenderloin Tessie* who holds four meals a year at the Unitarian Church for San Franciscans who do not have anyone over the major holidays. Another year we raised money for *Trevor's Project.* A Suicide Prevention Hotline for young adults, recently losing Federal Funds, they are relying on public support now more than ever, and they are not the only one. San Francisco Foodies from a small group that showed raised over $500. Finally last year was Muttville, we raised about $200. **Adminsitrivia** Site has a slope entrance and a parking lot nearby, but is not easily accessible for those with mobility problems, however in past years we have had people in wheelchairs (with large wheels) and persons who were blind who were able to attend and enjoyed the festivities. *Use event comments for Car Pooling and Ride Sharing.* *Many thanks for the photos and history from restaurant website* **#EatSanFrancisco #SanFranciscoFoodies #SFFoodies** *Photos and history from unsplash - credit Vino Li*
